i WANT to say sometime during the cancer arc, but i feel like one of the reasons the cancer arc is as good as it is is because m&s are stuck in this weird limbo where they're both kind of suspicious of the other's feelings but can't actually do anything about it because scully is dying and mulder blames himself. so i think i'm going to say the courtroom scene in terma just because i think skinner would have had an aneurysm live on camera
