had the absolute pleasure of commissioning this stunning piece from the ever-talented @minilev, capturing the first meeting of lyra fairbanks & @belorage’s deputy wes brooks ( to the future torment of all of hope county and the far more imminent torment of one mary may fairgrave ). i cannot recommend anna’s work enough, and another huge thanks for bringing these disasters to life in all of their beauty & terror.
anyway today seems like a great day to remind everyone that there’s nothing Morally Wrong with being allosexual while aromantic and still pursuing sexual relationships and that literally no one is Obligated to Change Their Mind and Actually Develop Romantic Feelings and this goes in fact for anyone who isn’t interested in a romantic relationship or even a defined partnership which is NOT innately the same thing even if they do not identify as aro. expecting or requiring someone to Change For You because their preferences are not your own doesn’t suddenly become noble and positive and sympathetic because it’s pertaining to Romance or Commitment instead of sex. so many core romance plots revolve around Taming or Fixing the Person Who’s Upfront About Not Wanting That because Of Course They Actually Do because Of Course Everyone Who’s a Good Person Who Deserves A Happy Ending Does Deep Down and nobody really blinks about it (because of course in those stories they never are aromantic, it’s simply true!!!) and while you can argue “ummm of course a ROMANCE is going to go that way” no actually there’s no “of course” about why that has to be introduced at all. there is no requirement that someone be villainized in a scenario for not changing their minds or having said what they meant. even if, not being aromatic or someone genuinely uninterested, they did change their minds, even once for the framing not to be the love interest expecting that being narratively justified as entitled to that and perhaps the wrong, unsympathetic party instead of the One In The Right who Needs to Have Things Made Up to Them would be a massive improvement. alas!
Shout-out to aromantic people whose lives are so fucking busy that they periodically forget what day of the week it is. today is Wednesday, June 5th. Happy Aromantic Visibility Day.
I was tagged by the always lovely @kyberinfinitygems and @lilywatt thank you!! 💕💕💕
for once it isn’t Bix that’s awake and suffering in the middle of the night 😔
Bix came to consciousness just enough to flip herself over onto her left side for a more comfortable position. Before she slipped back into slumber, her blurred vision caught the shadowed image of Imogen sitting upright at the edge of the bed. Bix blinked clarity into her eyes for a moment to confirm the abnormal sight, noting Imogen’s slightly hunched posture and the very subtle sway of her body. Usually, Bix was the one awake and troubled at odd hours.
“Hey,” Bix softly called, her voice raspy with sleep. She reached out and dragged her hand down her lover’s back. Imogen managed not to visibly startle, but Bix felt her muscles tense briefly under her unexpected touch. “What’s going on? Why are you awake?”
Imogen glanced over her shoulder, flashing a reassuring smile as she shook her head. “It is nothing to concern yourself with, darling.”
Unconvinced, Bix asked “What are you doing?”
“I was just…” Imogen shook her head again and her gaze fell. That’s when Bix noticed her hand resting on her left thigh, fingers digging into the flesh right above where her cybernetic limb ended. “Uh…” She shut her eyes tightly as if she didn’t remember what she was about to say before she sighed. “Thirsty.”
While she had always been able to tell when Imogen was lying, the way she stammered over the weak explanation was so uncharacteristic that any lingering drowsiness fogging Bix’s mind quickly grew into alarm. Bix pushed herself up and leaned towards her, reaching out to place her hand on top of Imogen’s. When she barely reacted to their contact, Bix looked down at how rigid and unrelenting her lover’s grip was on her own leg. Then she understood. “You’re in pain.”
It took a few measured breaths for Imogen to respond, which only confirmed Bix’s guess. “It is nothing.”
“But you’re–”
“It will pass.”
Bix knew her leg would ache sometimes, but she thought it only happened whenever Imogen exerted herself. They hadn’t done anything strenuous recently and she had never seen Imogen awake in the middle of the night wracked with pain. It made her fear that something was wrong.
She brushed her thumb over Imogen’s knuckles. “Has it ever happened like this before?”
Imogen nodded stiffly. “Not often. And not in a while.”
“There’s a stim in the medkit. I can go grab it.”
“I’m not sure that will be of much use for this particular ailment.”
“How long will it last?” Bix felt her chest tighten when Imogen gave a halfhearted shrug. In an attempt to soothe however she could, she kissed Imogen’s shoulder and rested her chin there. “You’re not getting any sleep tonight, are you?”
“I do not know,” Imogen answered through a strained whisper, tilting her head to rest it wearily against Bix’s.

tagged by @lilywatt and @imogenkol ; thank you! since i don’t have nothing concrete but an outline of ‘santo sangue’ i have taken inspo from @lilywatt and did some visuals + synopsis version.
flora was rescued from the cult/secret society she was raised in to become a thriving memento mori art curator. business is going well, and family life (where she was adopted into) is amazing, until people start dying around her — staged as famous paintings. it all leads to the giovanni, but the woman isn’t convinced. along the way she meets alfredo solomon ( @thirteensthings ) a man with secrets of his own, and family ties that are going to shift the way flora sees her own parents.
kinda. was tagged by @lilywatt @imogenkol @vocedellamorte and brainworms took over this week. i dont wanna talk about it. have another verse for mido. goodnight
still always tempted to try to teach myself to make face presets/render models because nothing since her og dao toolset model has ever captured her bigass eyes that goggle-eyed whore etc. also heartbreaking they were in fact originally brown i’d love to say i made them blue to make her unsettling and evil but i was a kid who was afraid she looked too much Like Me. and also so she’d look more like bryce. alas.
like you know the whole “this isn’t a show/film it’s a bunch of spliced together gifable/viral~ baity/memeable scenes that virtually never actually become those things because the intentionality destroys the authenticity and fundamentally misunderstands the appeal” and that’s why you get shit like morbius getting re-released but it was very much NOT morbin time to go to the theater and pay money to see morbius. a lot of Tumblr Prose (tm) that’s now just often Prose because as always the fandom of yesteryear makes up the published authors of today is the literary equivalent of that where lines that have no contextual or character justification or internal consistency with the established speech and behavioral patterns of characters or any actual meaning of you think about them for two seconds as they relate to how and when and where they appear because the Why is “to be Most Underlined on kindle” or “to be snipped and added to Viral Posts”
the style of writing is not the problem, not the genre, not the subject matter, not even the words themselves. the SINGLE defining issue with the “Tumblr Prose” style i was trying to tackle is that it’s front loaded with imagery and metaphor and completely lacking in sense, reason, symmetry, motion, conveying information. i agree that plenty of writing can sound good and feel good to read when it’s all metaphor and visceral images but it needs to have a baseline that can carry it through or else the tail wags the dog and it’s all cool “quotable” lines and no substance, nothing to read between the lines, no character
⊱ Faerene has always found solace in the family tombs, ever since she was a little girl. While other children chased the sun to play, she sought the comforting shade of the catacombs. Perhaps not so unusual for someone coming from a family of necromancers; however, her drive to sometimes spend days amongst the engraved sarcophagi of her forebears was a behaviour considered odd even by her closest family members. Her father, especially, wished for his daughter to spend more time with the living. “The dead have much to teach us,” he used to say, “most importantly that we have to keep on living.” What he didn’t understand was the real reason behind Faerene’s forays to the family catacombs. Between her struggles to communicate with her peers and the overwhelming, inexplicable feeling of otherness, the young girl lacked compassionate and understanding company. The spirits seldom judge, especially those so lovingly cared for as the ones dwelling in the Rosenhall tombs. And above all, in the turbulent world of never-ending change, the dead are, as much as Death itself, quite comfortably unchangeable. [ a reshoot of this post ]
