what shape does your pain take?
ASPH: you hide your pain behind a mask. maybe you feel you can’t be helped, maybe you think no one cares, maybe you don’t want to hurt anyone else with it, you’re afraid of being judged, or maybe there’s another reason. but whatever the reason, you fake a smile and try to function normally even though you’re one step away from falling apart. secretly, you wish someone would notice it’s a mask, ask you if you’re really okay, see right through and make it be okay somehow. you’re hurt and a little angry that no one’s noticed yet, but you’ll never admit it. white lies, not that bad… are they?
JAVAN: you’re drowning. a sea of emotions, responsibilities, people, things, everything. you just can’t handle it all, you need to escape, but you can’t. even talking to someone and being told it’s okay, compliments, nice things people say, it all adds up to drown you further. guilt, for feeling this way when everyone’s being nice and you’re not enough. will you sink or swim?
MARLY-ALICE: you hide your pain behind a mask. maybe you feel you can’t be helped, maybe you think no one cares, maybe you don’t want to hurt anyone else with it, you’re afraid of being judged, or maybe there’s another reason. but whatever the reason, you fake a smile and try to function normally even though you’re one step away from falling apart. secretly, you wish someone would notice it’s a mask, ask you if you’re really okay, see right through and make it be okay somehow. you’re hurt and a little angry that no one’s noticed yet, but you’ll never admit it. white lies, not that bad… are they?
MILLS: you feel disconnected from the world around you. you can see everything, everyone can see you, but you’re not really there. no one can really communicate with you, can they? you’re isolated, even when you’re around people you’re alone. you want desperately to be close to someone, but you’re afraid of what will happen if you shatter your glass prison. you don’t want to let someone in, you don’t want to leave, and it’s a constant battle of your own will. it’s easier to be alone, where no one can hurt you… isn’t it?
SAWYER: your pain takes the shape of flowers, or something else beautiful and free. you can’t help but see what you don’t have in the beautiful thing, can’t help but feel pain as you see what you’re missing out on. maybe you even wish that you could just be happy and surround yourself in flowers, but you can’t, because each time you see them it’s like a reminder of the empty hole you carry. they say that pain is beauty… right?
