3. What was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…”

It was a series of moments that Tomaj was really slow to catch up on that when it did finally occur to him that he adored Mátyás it hit him like a truck. Lol.

He's never been really good at parsing his feelings easily, nor talking about them but Mátyás has really opened him up in that way!

8. What do they think about romantic love? Do they have baggage surrounding it? Do they idealize it? Is it an object of longing and wanting, or were they really not thinking about it until they started falling for the other character? What are their expectations like?

Tomaj has had really bad experiences when it came to dating and relationships. He's been cheated on by someone he was seeing in his village, been ghosted by a traveling mercenary, and led on for a few sexual encounters than actual relationships. There was always a part of him wanting something genuine as love but he's been very unlucky. He was hurt enough to eventually turn down anyone that expressed interest, focus entirely on his duties as a blacksmith and not indulge in idle fantasies and romance. It just wasn't something he was meant to have. And that's just what someone with low self esteem tells himself after all the heartbreak and disappointments. A decade like this turned his solitude into isolation, and it wasn't until an eccentric, handsome mage that rolled up into his shop on the outskirts of his village that changed it all, breathing new life into him.

26. They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?

Mátyás hates to argue and fight and would rather talk things out and Tomaj has no issue with giving cold shoulders or walking away from a brewing argument to cool off. Naturally, fights like those can be pretty exhaustive especially when they're both stubborn in their own ways.

But fights like that are honestly kind of rare! They do bicker though... and far more often. 🤭 They're just OLD PPL IN LOVE WHO FEEL LIKE THEY'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR TWO DECADES what do you expect!!

30. What completely petty topic (music taste, favorite food) do they find themselves completely at odds with their partner about?

Mátyás gives him so much shit for dating a lute player. He's pretentious as hell like that because he's an incredibly skilled at playing violin and obviously violins are more refined and tasteful, harder to master, etc. 🙄 He loves to be a jealous little hater.

Tomaj just thinks violins and lutes are both neat. 😑

21. Do they share any interests or hobbies?

Broadly speaking, traveling, music and food is probably the major interests they share! Tomaj's main interest/hobby is in his craft as a blacksmith while Mátyás has his magical endeavors and academic pursuits. They are largely their own person but are willing to come together to indulge each other's interests.

29. How do the handle disasters or emergencies? Minor injuries? Sickness?

Tomaj and Mátyás both tend to try and brush off their injuries when it comes to themselves but absolutely fret over one another. Tomaj's bedside manner isn't as refined as Mátyás's though. However if the situation is dire with Tomaj's injuries or illnesses, Mátyás -- a powerful archmage -- will go to uhhhh... great and sometimes unorthodox lengths.. to make sure Tomaj survives. :)

43. Do they talk often? What about?

Despite their polarities they mesh really well together and have such a strong foundation of friendship in their little whirlwind romance. Funnily enough the romance came before the friendship though. Still! Mátyás also happens to be an excellent talker and Tomaj is more than happy to be a listener. They really can chat about almost anything and everything.

Spending quality time is so important to them and it's very common they just find somewhere away from it all that is theirs (like a verdant valley of flowers near a lake) to just enjoy each other's company.
