Did you know that a writer of beloved TV show Sonic Satam, Ben Hurst, tried to pitch a finale for the series in the form of a movie to SEGA in order to give the series a proper conclusion?

Following this, none other than Archie Sonic writer and illustrator Ken Penders contacted Hurst expressing interest in the concept, even telling Hurst he’d like to collaborate with him in pitching an Archie/SATAM film to SEGA!

Isn’t that swell?

Of course, what Penders actually meant was that he’d be contacting SEGA to kindly inform them that Hurst’s SATAM movie pitch was in reality a nasty plot by Hurst to co-opt the Sonic IP for himself! Of course, since Penders already had SEGA in the room, he also figured he’d use the opportunity to pitch his own concept for a Sonic movie (which he happened to have created on his own by total coincidence, I’m sure) in the form of “Sonic Armageddon.”

This alternative movie pitch was, obviously, rejected because well. duh. But hey, at least in the process Penders also ensured that any hope for a SATAM finale was as dead as a donkey! And thank god, right? I mean, imagine if someone could just lay claim to the Sonic brand like that? Think of how many stories, characters, and concepts they could have utterly ruined for the series, fundamentally changing how the writing of both mainline and supplementary material is conducted even 20+ years later! Thank fucking god Ken Penders was there to put a stop to such a future ever happening!!!!

Anyways, Ben Hurst passed away in 2010 without ever getting to bring his vision for a SATAM movie to life. Meanwhile, the guy who killed it is on twitter right now talking about his totally original freaky ech’yd’nya comic full of original non-knuckles characters as if its the second coming of Christ in media format (when he’s not comparing his echidnas to victims of the holocaust, discussing the sex lives of teenage girls, and expressing his love for Hillary Clinton, of course!).
