🎬 for Apple?
🎬 - An Uninterrupted Movie Night
Back at it with the comfort! (Yes, there is an angsty whumpy version of this, but that’s for later.) Enjoy it while it lasts, ‘cause Apple’s in for it in a little bit. >:) For once, it’s not super angsty! It is, like, a little bit, but it’s way less than the others, okay?
Also, this is a lot further in Apple’s timeline with Jimmy. Like a year in. He’s given up on trying to get back to Clay. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t miss him. (You can usually guesstimate how far in it is by what Apple calls Jimmy. He’s no longer Temporary Master Jimmy. He’s Master Jimmy!)
Anyway, no real CW! Just a tad bit of Stockholm Syndrome and food. Now, without further ado...
Master Jimmy lets Apple pick the movie.
That… feels like a lot of responsibility. Apple takes a reluctant seat on the couch and starts clicking through the titles on Netflix.
There’s tons of scary movies, but no, Apple knows from experience they’ll give him nightmares. Not to mention Master Jimmy always hides behind his hands during them. There’s a lot of comedies, too, but Apple never gets the jokes anyway.
From the living room, Apple can hear the popcorn in the microwave popping away. He gets a little more anxious as the titles scroll by, dozens of them, and his hold on the remote grows unsteady with his shaking.
Apple shakes his head. Master Jimmy entrusted him with this. He can do it. He can—
“Too many choices, huh?” Master Jimmy walks in carrying the steaming bag of popcorn by the corner.
He slips around the coffee table and takes a seat beside Apple, leaving a respectful distance between the two of them. Master Jimmy gives the bag in hand a shake and then teases the folded ends at the top apart.
Apple appreciates that, the way Master Jimmy acts like he’s not waiting for an answer. He bites his lip and nods. “I don’t… I…” He’s been practicing his phrases, his wants and needs, but they’re still hard to voice even at the best of times. Apple takes a deep breath and stares at the remote in his trembling hands. “I don’t… want to pick the movie today. I don’t know which to choose.”
Master Jimmy pauses. “There’s no wrong choice, you know.” His voice is gentle and patient. “I’ll watch whatever you want to.”
Apple looks at Master Jimmy. “I know. I just…” His eyes fall back on the remote.
Master Jimmy looks at the TV for a second. “Here. How about we just choose a movie at random instead? I’ll just close my eyes...” Master Jimmy makes a big show of covering his eyes with his hand and then puts his other hand out expectantly.
Apple stares at it for a while before he gets it, placing the remote in his hands.
“Thank you.” Then Master Jimmy starts pressing buttons loudly and seemingly without reason or rhyme. Apple’s confusion shows clear on his face, not that Master Jimmy can see it. Thankfully, he supplements his actions with a quick, “And now... I’ll find us a movie without looking. Smart, right?”
Apple nods, eyes plastered to the screen.
On it, Master Jimmy passes by horror movies and thrillers and even rom-coms before unknowingly scrolling through the trending section.
Three to the right, up once and then right back down, and then left twice more. The cursor pauses. “I’m liking the feel of this one,” Master Jimmy says with his eyes still closed. He selects it, a movie with a Hawaii-shirt wearing lizard for a thumbnail. Rango.
Master Jimmy opens his eyes and pulls the knitted blanket draped over the back of the couch over him and Apple. Then he gives the popcorn a shake and offers some to him.
Apple sticks his hand in the bag, intent on taking a handful when something draws his gaze up at Master Jimmy. He doesn’t know what comes over him. Whatever it is, slowly, just in case Master Jimmy rejects the touch, expecting it even, Apple scoots closer to him until they’re sitting up against each other. A beat, then two and nothing happens. Apple sighs softly and lets himself lean his head on Master Jimmy’s shoulder.
Master Jimmy smiles into Apple’s hair and pulls the blanket further up their laps. With a dramatic motif, the movie begins.
It’s a good movie. No, a great movie. The popcorn is finished before it’s even halfway over, but by the end the two of them are too relaxed and sleepy to care.
Apple is about to push the covers off of them and reach for the remote to turn off the TV when he hears a soft snore to his right.
Apple peeks out from his side and feels a surge of fondness at what he sees: Master Jimmy, fast asleep.
He could move. Apple could, and Master Jimmy would groggily rub his eyes before wishing Apple goodnight and heading to his room. But… tonight Apple doesn’t want him to leave.
Instead of waking Master Jimmy up, Apple pulls the blanket up to his arms and nuzzles into Master Jimmy’s warm shoulder.
A few minutes later, the TV’s screensaver comes on, black aside for the occasional burst of confetti across the screen. Apple finds his eyes drifting closed on their own accord.
When he falls asleep, he knows it’s next to Master Jimmy, but he dreams of Master Clay.
