There were two major "oh shit!" moments for me - Theon and his revelation about fatherhood and the whole Varys arc. Yes, he did tell Tyrion his story, but the man in the box was just... too much. I really love Conleth Hill and he's doing amazing job, but I think they're trying to do the same thing they did with Littlefinger - taking all the mystery away. Oh, there's a 3rd "oh shit", how I could forget Podrick and his skills so great that even Varys is surprised! It was good episode, though.
Hey anon.
1- Theon saying Ned was a father for him was out of character, imo.
2- I don’t personally think they are giving away too much with the characterization of Varys. I think they gave just enough, and the sorcerer was a surprise, of course, but they didn’t kill his arc with that. He said something like doing awful things to get where he is now, but he never said what, and never explained more than he needed to. And I’d like to believe for every detail Varys reveals, he has a 100 more he hides. Also, he has a reason to disclose certain stories, so there’s always a leverage in everything he does. So, even if the show is not so great in following those little things, I still have hope for Varys.
3- And I’m starting to think the Pod situation was planned out by Tyrion and Littlefinger. Cause before Tyrion takes Pod to the girls, he’s talking to LF about granting the boy with some reward for what he did for Tyrion. So, maybe it’s all planned out, and the girls were paid to say he was awesome.
Thanks!
