Val Velocity kept turning up at Beta’s shack. She didn’t know how he found it, which pissed her off considering how long she spent trying to keep the place a secret, but he usually turned up with some injury and a cocky demand that she should fix him up. Beta felt as though she ought to throw him out and tell him to heal himself, but he paid her honestly, sometimes even obliging to her demands of giving extra when he turned up on her off days. 

Although this time the snotty-nosed kid had really out-done himself. Beta was a little speechless at the sight of him before gruffly asking, “So then, where do I begin?"
