Calling yourself Queer is like calling yourself the F Slur. I don't understand it at all.

I don’t understand it, but if it makes them feel empowered then it’s not my place to say differently.

What I don’t like is that queer is being used as an umbrella term, is used in academia, in media, in social media campaigns, etc. despite it being a slur.

It being reclaimed by some members of the community doesn’t mean that’s what the community should be referred to as.

No other community (to my knowledge) is forced to use a slur to refer to themselves. It’s unfair for people to ask us to.

Imagine using K*ke Studies instead of Jewish Studies or a brand using the word n*gg*r on social media for their Black History Month campaign.

It’s ridiculous.
