So Yesterday’s Lie revealed that Philip had a brother, and that according to the book, they both went to the demon realm after being invited by I witch.
Most people seem to think that’s how Philip first arrived on the boiling isles, but honestly my first thought was that the event described in the book happens after Philip successfully builds the portal and returns home to reunite with his brother, and then convinces him, with the help of his witch companion, to come with him into the demon realm.
The main reason I think that is because both Gwendolyn and Philip reference Titans blood as the source of his original dimension hoping, and make it sound accidental, while what’s mentioned in the book seems very purposeful. (And if there was a witch who could jump between realms with company freely, why would Philip need the portal in the first place?)
And then there’s the picture in the book
There’s another theory going around about how the brother has little rascal on his shoulder, and Philip is holding a glyph, but if this picture is supposed to be the precursor to the brothers original arrival in the demon realm, there’s no way Philip would how how to make glyphs, unless he’s already been there and it’s his brother that is being persuaded
(It would also suggest that that bird is either actually the witch’s pailsmen, or an actual bird that the brother then models his pailsmen on but that’s besides the point)
