It’s been a long while since River could stand in a store and not feel suspected of armed robbery. Wondering why people think like that, she puts the sunglasses back, lazy spins the rack and tries on a new pair. They dwarf her head. Worse than thinking, actually, is expecting. She tries a pink pair. The store clerk is waiting. She can afford five-dollar gas station sunglasses, you know.

Hunter is still filling up the tank outside. He finds her in front of the car flipping thick-rimmed black shades onto her head just to squint in the sun, and she finds him waiting while the gas glugs, and besides them, the sun and the gas station, there may as well be nothing left in the world. “I payed for the gas. We good to go?”
