It's actually the coolest thing, vintage dinos, because it's quite literally like a snapshot of our of scientific understanding at the time.

"We don't understand how this animal could possibly support its own weight so it must have used water for buoyancy" or "we don't know where this spike goes so what if it's a horn on its nose?" or "we're not sure how this animal's posture would be maintained so we're going to base it off of extant animals like monitor lizards and crocodiles"

paleontologists back then weren't any less clever. The only difference was the amount of available evidence to grow off of.

It is the coolest goddamn thing. Especially considering where we might be in a couple more decades.
