i also should probably occasionally try to write something short and quick instead of just working on things that take years and cause me significant stress. just a wild thought

guys look at what i worked on for like the past 3 hours
if anyone wants to finish hakkai for me... yk...
Buddy...when do ANY fire emblem characters act and think their age? Fucking hell, Hector's fucking 17 and lyn is 16 and they lead fucking armies and shit. MARTH is fucking fourteen in the first game. I'm pretty sure that going "she didn't think things through because shes seventeen" is a shitty argument to make.
Um... plenty of times?
Lysithea hates vegetables and only wants to eat sweets - like a bratty 15 year old girl. Annette sings silly songs about cleaning and plants growing - like an eccentric 16 year old girl. Felix thinks with his fists a solid 65% of the time, minimum - like a rowdy 17 year old boy. Like... sorry for being kinda mean but... they absolutely do have moments where they act their age. Them being able to act more grown than they are 100% does not erase the fact they can and do act their ages sometimes.
Imma say it like this... just because FE character are known to do some big shit at teeny tiny baby ages for the scale of what they do, doesn't erase the fact that they are still dumbass teenagers that can make dumbass teenager mistakes. You even see that outside of 3H, it's not something unique to this game in particular.
Sanaki can be this big wig Empress who makes these ground-shifting decisions that affects countless people at fuckin' 10, but notice how even with this fact Sanaki is still a bratty know-it-all who lords her title around who sometimes fucks up and makes a bad call. Because she's 10. Aka, she's gonna act and mess up like a 10 year old sometimes.
Hector's 17 and Lyn's 16 and they lead their armies and they fight in their wars and they still have moments where they act like 17 and 16 year olds. Because leading armies and having all that responsibility and shit doesn't erase the fact that they're literally teenagers, which means that sometimes they will act... like teenagers
The explanation of "it's FE, age is fucky when it comes to who's making the decisions" is meant to explain why and how these fuckin' sprouts are runnin' around ruling continents and shit, not to be like "and they never act like their age, ever, in any context whatsoever, and they never make dumb mistakes." Like, you wanna know an example of "teenager who's competent to an abnormally above-average degree still making a plan that's stupid as shit"? Eirika, from Sacred Stones.
Eirika is in her late teens - probably 17 - when she's leading her men, and you wanna know her brilliant alias to go by to not be discovered by mercs she knows are trying to capture her? Fucking. Erina. And then she proceeds to have mercs find her ass immediately - probably also partly due to her making no attempt to disguise her fuckin' turquoise hair and lordly clothes (she and her men defeat them but you get the idea). And this isn't her wanting to pull off any sneaky plan for her own benefit, it's her life on the line here. There's also the time where she was about to follow a sus as hell general because she didn't think to actually listen to what the dude was saying and how off his story was - she only went off the act that she knew him, unlike Seth, who saw through it immediately despite knowing the general more than Eirika did. Almost like she's a naïve 17 year old and sometimes they make bad plans and decisions.
As for Edelgard herself, she - all three of the lords really, to certain degrees - believe that "If I'm the ruler, than I'll just fix everything!", almost like they're all teenagers that don't have a full grasp on the depths of the issues at hand yet! That they learn the complexities of everything as they grow older and get more experience (though lbr Edelgard's learns the least by a country mile, but that's besides the point)! So I can absolutely believe that she can make a dumb as hell decision because she's young and didn't think things through, because FE never said that these characters are perfect with the bigass decisions they make, only that they make them. With a better track record than a normal teenager would have, sure, but not flawless.
So yeah, "Edelgard hiring the bandits and telling them to kill as many noble brats as possible because she's a hotshot teenager who thought she could take 'em and that plan blowing up in her face"? 100% believable explanation, even by FE standards
