He wants to hide, he want’s to cry, but they a sure him that they’ll always be there, even if he can’t see them, “Trust in me.” they say to him tenderly before the doctors inject a drug to put them into a medical coma to ease their pain, “Just try and keep it together, you can do better.” a single tear falls from his eye as he watches them struggle slightly against the drug, their tired eyes refusing to close.

You wade into the water and sit down. The giant fish comes up to you and lays his head in your lap. You stroke his head and tell him you’re gonna be leaving soon. He looks up at you oddly and asks ‘where are you going’ you then explain that you’re getting old and are probably not going to be alive much longer. He refuses to accept this and starts being vocal, which in his case is horrid screeches, once you get him calm you explain that it happens with humans. They get old, and they die, much faster than mermaids do. After your final visit, you kiss the top of his head goodbye and head back to the pier. You look your friend dead in the eyes and say “Sink me in the ocean when I die.”
