Ariadne and Kelly’s interaction has been minimal at best—as far as Kelly can recall, they didn’t even exchange names—but it’s funny, because the brief exchange they shared concerning faithfulness and basic relationship decency has haunted Kelly ever since. Well, maybe haunted isn’t the best word—and God knows, nor is plagued—but it’s certainly inflicted on her thoughts every now and again. It sneaks in when Kelly least expects it, when she can feel the doubt ebbing in as she considers her now off-again relationship. And Kelly thinks, ‘Damn. That’s the kind of girl that has her head on her shoulders. That’s the kind of girl who really has her shit together.' And Kelly wonders, ‘I wonder if she’s happy, that girl who lived in Paris? I bet she is; she seemed to have it all figured out.' Yeah, it’s funny how these vignettes with strangers can sometimes make the biggest impacts.

So, Night Vale as a whole obviously bewilders the life out of Kelly but having met Cecil on the first or second day of her stay has made the culture shock a lot less extreme. Basically, whenever he talks about the idiosyncrasies of the place she finds herself struck speechless (rare!) because he’s so smart and worldly-seeming; she finds that being around Cecil is a like finding calmness in a bizarre storm. And she makes a point to parrot the former observation regularly— “God, you’re so smart, Cecil, it’s embarrassing just being around you.”

       Immediately, brows furrowed. That was a little uncalled for!-- and, totally out of the blue. And maybe Kelly tried to ignore the fact that it tasted totally sour to hear it from somebody like Cece, who she had pretty genuinely adored since birth, as she shot back with feigned mocking mirth, "Fine! Be that way, bitch."

           [ yeah, well, lucky the deprivation of sleep has made her anything but suspicious (it'd take at least another forty-five minutes for that to kick in), so she's skitting to the bedroom as she yells over her shoulder ]             I'm not that gullible, I just-- I'm not taking any chances!
