[TEXT] I know you’re training, but don’t stay out so late. You’re still only a child.
✍: For what my muse has written about yours in their diary.
I think he tries a bit too hard to be like Ren sometimes… Maybe it’s just me. I hope he can become as strong as both of us are. He may not be biologically my son, but as long as I’m with Ren, they’re both my family. Just having someone else around helps me a lot. He doesn’t fight with my style of combat at all, but I do want to help him get stronger. Watching him grow is strong though… It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since I was also a child…
❂: My muse is clumsy and crashes into yours.
He’d never really gotten out of the customs of his tribe, and he still had a habit of wearing his tribe’s clothing. He’d gotten a new set to fit more comfortably in them as soon as he’d noticed he’d grown again. They fit just fine… except he still managed to trip on the ends of the robes near his feet just as Men came up to him. He probably surprised Men more than he surprised himself, though the boy had thankfully managed to keep them both falling.
"Er… That never happened, okay?"

'I really wish he would shut up sometimes. On top of that, he's too confusing. If I try to get close he gets angry, but if I pull away he forces me back. I don't know how I'm supposed to act around him anymore. Sometimes I think I should just stand there and ignore him. He's annoying. It would be helpful if his face made up for that personality, but it doesn't. His attitude bothers me.He’s cute’
∞: A random headcanon about my muse and yours.
The thought of Ren becoming King scares Nichrome. He begins to think Ren will become the way he used to be if given such power, and while he doesn’t hate the present Ren, he does still despite the old Ren. It’s another thing he is thankful to Hao for, knowing Hao will definitely become King.
♪: I’ve put all of my songs on shuffle- now I have to write a drabble involving our muses with the next song that comes on.
As usual, the two were getting on each other’s nerves for some reason or another. Ren didn’t seem to want to stay near someone he’d caused any pain for, and it had always seemed to bother him whenever Nichrome even showed a slight trace of worry, anger, sadness, fear, or anything remotely similar. Ren was regretting his past again, and it was dragging both of them down. Nichrome had been avoiding him, working normally with the other Officials whenever they weren’t near each other. There was no point in staying near him when both of them wouldn’t say what they actually felt. More accurately, they both kept acting tough and wouldn’t step down and be honest.
Rather than keeping things so strained, Nichrome had met up with him a day after his considerations to clear this up. It was pointless continuing the way they were going, and was nothing but a dead-end. He’d quickly asked if Ren had always planned to act so stubborn with him, and as expected resulted in the other beginning to snap at him again. He stopped and waited for Ren to finish - waited to finally be able to get this all over with and push their problems aside.
This hadn’t always been just about Chrome. It was both of them being stubborn and snarky to each other all the time. “What are you even fighting with me over all the time? If you would calm down for even a day, you would have realized by now my attitude toward you isn’t about your past.” It was partly, but that was only a momentary thing on few days. The past was not ever going to disappear. Of course there would be feelings regarding it. Both of them knew that, though. What needed to be said was what wasn’t said all this time. They’d had plenty of opportunities for this, but it went right back to their stubborn dispositions that had made them miss all those chances. In fact, they could have dealt with this sooner, instead of always wondering what they both really thought of each other. Always wondering if even those insults to each other were honest, or nothing but their facades.
Ren wasn’t stupid. He knew he’d catch on quickly enough. Nichrome had been trying to move past the situation with Chrome, even if he’d never completely, entirely succeed. That fact seemed to be starting to sink in - the fact that they didn’t need to hold up a double wall so intently anymore. The day’s light had faded just as Ren began to acknowledge his words, which had put the Patch Official at enough ease to yet so quietly and almost inaudibly speak to him. “I’ve forgotten… how to hate you.” He’d wanted Ren to hear it, but somehow couldn’t bring himself to speak any louder. Had he heard him? Was it simply that he couldn’t find words to match those in reply? But the tense atmosphere was gone. He must have heard it. Tomorrow, they’d go right back to their usual selves - though surely, all the while understanding where they stood with each other.
♬: Would you care to dance? My muse has to dance with yours.
As much as it had been the idea of half the Patch Officials to make a formal dance party during the Shaman Fight, Nichrome had not been one to agree with it. They were busy with other things, and throwing this in was unnecessary. It didn’t help when that Ren was sulking right next to him. His family had insisted as their heir, he needed some kind of proper etiquette. Neither Nichrome nor Ren had counted on other Patch Officials saying Nichrome could teach him, being the younger brother of someone who enjoyed such things. Both of them had sworn this was some kind of family conspiracy.
After an irritatingly long half hour of Ren’s moody attitude being beside him, he finally gave up and stood, yanking Ren up with him. Despite his various complaints and protests, he’d been dragged off to a corner where they’d be left alone. Not that Ren’s family or the Patch wouldn’t be watching anyway… He pulled Ren in with his arm on the other’s lower back, making every effort to ignore both their reddened faces. “Shut up. We’re doing this and getting it over with. Never speak of it again.”
♛: My muse is royalty for a day and you are their loyal subject- wait, what? What would my muse’s reaction be to this idea?
"A single day? I think Ren should be doing everything for me any day." He could do things himself, definitely, but watching Ren running around trying to get things done for Nichrome’s sake was amusing enough. It had nothing to do with the person himself or the awkward relationship they shared - it was the reactions Ren gave for things like this. "But I guess I can be a slave driver for an entire single day."
♚: You are my master- hold on. What if my muse was the loyal subject, how would this go?
That guy asked for the most ridiculous things. Three of everything he asked for, and not one thing he would do for himself right now. Sure, he was the heir to the Tao family, and sure, the whole family was around on the island right now. But did that really mean he had to start acting haughty like this? Really, he was just using his heritage to ask Nichrome to do things for him for the time being. Actually, that would be fine and well since it was only a day, but… it wasn’t fine and well when he was asked for three kisses. He… was going to have revenge for this.
☾: It’s in the middle of the night and my muse had a nightmare about yours- what does my muse do?
Even though he knew it was only a dream, the thought of Ren becoming what he once was during the Shaman Fight was still almost frightening. The Ren Nichrome knew was calm and and at least somewhat rational. This had not been the first time this dream had happened, and it probably would not be the last. The most annoying part was that he wasn’t sure how to get over it.
There was no need to tell anyone about it. The other Officials already knew Nichrome still had a hard time handling this. He definitely did much better now regarding the topic than he used to, but the old thoughts were still very plaguing. There was, in fact, nothing he could do about it but go to sleep again and hope it didn’t happen again that night. For a long while, he simply watched the ceiling blankly, plenty of passing thoughts occurring to him that eventually had nothing to do with Ren anymore. By the time he’d felt calm enough to return to sleep, he recalled why he was even awake again in the first place. “Damn idiot… Won’t even leave me alone in my dreams.”
♦: Your muse asked mine to marry them, what’s my muse’s reaction?
His face had never heated up so quickly. What the fuck did he just hear? He’d stared back at Ren in silence for a few moments until nearing confirmation that the other was serious. Then again, this was Ren. He would be too embarrassed to pull this kind of joke. He’d probably expect it to even be used against him sooner or later. It was… so sudden, though. Nichrome’s mind had mostly gone blank regarding how to answer. As much as he still could hardly believe what was going on, staying silent was not making anything progress at all.
Staring for only a couple seconds more, he finally turned partly away so as to not have to face Ren while he answered. “A-A-A-After the Shaman Fight is over. I-Idiot.” Of course nothing could happen right now. It really was in the middle of the Shaman Fight, after all. Though, he’d only been vaguely aware of what he’d just agreed to. It still didn’t feel quite like that had just happened. It wasn’t that he wouldn’t have agreed - it was that he was expecting Ren to not be taking this seriously. But even if he originally hadn’t been, he’d realize in about five seconds exactly what Nichrome had just said.
Wait. Did that make Tao fucking Ren his fiancé? Shit.
✦: My muse was attacked but yours saved them- how’ll my muse ever thank them?
He had been about to say he hadn’t asked for Ren’s help, but he knew he’d just get a snarky answer. He needed the help after all, and those words would mean absolutely nothing right now. As far as Nichrome saw it, Ren had only protected him out of the feeling of responsibility; of needing to make something up to him. Even so, he didn’t want to feel indebted to Tao Ren of all people. Even if Ren brushed it off somehow, it didn’t change the fact that Nichrome had been weak enough to need saving by this guy. How was he going to be able to call himself stronger when things like this happened?
"I’m sure you don’t need a thanks." He didn’t think he could really make this up to him, either. Though, Ren had done it of his own accord - he really didn’t have to. If his pride wasn’t in the way, he probably wouldn’t even be worried about this. "Just… Sorry I got in the way." Ren probably didn’t want anything in return anyway. Somehow, it bothered Nichrome just the slightest that he couldn’t give back. All he needed to do right now was to let it go though. He could set them even again when the situation called for it. He didn’t need to be stuck on Ren for yet another thing.
✦
✦: My muse was attacked but yours saved them- how’ll my muse ever thank them?
Had he really just needed saving? Surely, he should not have needed such a thing. He was one of the Ten Priests. The others could hold their own just fine, he was sure. To need the help of another Spirits besides his own and Purple Kick was ridiculous. Nichrome was not weak, but he did consider himself below the other Priests. This… did not help the problem at all.
It wasn’t hard to tell what kind of person she was. Even if he thanked her, if she did this, it was because she wanted to. Maybe he was too hard on himself, but he was quite sure he should not have needed any kind of support. He needed to get stronger. Strong enough to not need any kind of help anymore. “I’m sorry for the trouble. I won’t put you in this kind of position again.” She wouldn’t need to save him again. He would handle it himself. It was both what he assured himself and exactly what he was going to make sure happened.
