when times go rough: lily + zoe [30.9.78]

Lily believed very deeply in protecting the sanctity of libraries; she maintained a reasonable speaking volume and only reshelved books when she was absolutely confident of where they belonged. Madame Pince had a severe reputation but to some degree, Lily thought it was warranted. The poor woman had to safeguard the library from those looking to take advantage of the hushed privacy of the stacks to get up to less than academic activities.

Lily also, however, believed in satisfying one’s stomach.

She would do her absolute best to abide by all of Pince’s rules, but the food ban was one she couldn’t tolerate. How was someone supposed to study properly without the odd snack here and there? A cup of coffee while she read, a sandwich during a late-night cram session– study snacks were an integral part of the educational experience.

This was why Lily found herself peering around bookshelves as she made her way to her usual table, a luxurious cinnamon roll in hand. Lily liked to think the house-elves offered the best treats on Mondays as an apology for it being, well, a Monday. In this circumstance, the pastry would make a perfect accompaniment for the dent in her Charms reading she was trying to accomplish. She figured as long as the books remained frosting free there was no real harm done.

She finally managed to sneak her way to her usual corner of the library only to find it occupied by another witch. There was more than enough room for both of them so Lily dropped her things to begin to settle in. The girl’s expression caught her attention though, she looked terribly glum. Lily sighed inwardly, already resigned to the offer she would have to make in the name of sisterhood. Clearing her throat, she spoke up, "Do you want this? It looks like you could use it more than I do.”
