I'm extremely confused about my gender. I was born female but I've never felt right as a female and I've always been considered very masculine or manly. I don't know if I want to be a man either and I'm really confused about who I am. I don't really know what to do about it. - Jen

Hi there dear!

Finding an identity that you’re comfortable with and that you think fits you can be quite difficult, and it’s perfectly common to feel confused about this. Remember, you don’t have to rush to label yourself. A lot of people are quick to find an identity which is right for them, and other people take a long time to find one that they identify with. Some people don’t identify with any label at all, and so they don’t use a label for their gender. It is completely up to you and what you feel is right for you. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to who you are!

Remember lovely, there are many more genders than just male and female. Just because you don’t identify with one of those, that doesn’t mean that you won’t identify with another gender! We have a page on gender and sexuality here. The page discuses different gender identities, and it may help to point you in the right direction as to who you are. The list is pretty extensive, but that doesn’t mean that we have included every single gender. If anyone is reading this and knows of one that we have missed, then let us know!

If you look through this list and none are right for you, then that’s perfectly fine! Gender and pronouns are very personal, and who you are doesn’t need a label or a definition.
