Kagami had staring at Kaname for a little while now. She simply looked divine whenever she was seated by that one particular window that overlooked the garden. The Cherryblossom and a small koi pond right behind her, decorating what already was a beauty beyong Kagami's comprehension.

She had tried to concentrate, but Kagami's eyes were like a silent hug and when she turned to ask, he already was there.. stealing himself a loving kiss before he brought his lips up to her forehead.

"You are beautiful.", he whispered against her skin and the happiness that resided in his voice wa an understatement to what he felt in his heart.

He might combust asking this, his face far to red and humiliated. He might set himself on fire if Link doesn't answer, runs or says no straight up. "Can I kiss you?"

Link was surprised to hear this come from Sheik. He was usually so strait-laced, so rigid... but to hear him ask this, see him so flustered over it... in some way, it humanized the Sheikah for him. Not that he saw him any other way, but he could be so stoic at times.

His face turns red as he swallows hard, rubbing his neck. "W-well, uh... I-I suppose so, y-yeah... I wouldn't mind..."

He looks down at her, eyebrow raised. "How bold... and yet so foolish." he remarks. "...But what kind of a man would I be to turn down such a beautiful woman?"

Gently cupping her chin he leans down and gives her a kiss, both his hands and lips cold to the touch.

It had been a good while since the two had been hanging out, with Link starting to actually feel welcomed back in Hyrule. Not that he didn’t think anyone would like him... but more so that he felt so out of place. Somehow though, that all seemingly floated away with Zelda.

He always felt like he was taking time away from her important duties, but she always insisted that he wasn’t. The time they spent together was just... nice, overall. It certainly beat the loneliness of his travels up to this point. And now that he was face to face with her once again... he had some feelings bottled up.

Tonight was going to be the night; he had to tell her.

Night had fallen. Link had insisted that there was something he needed to show her at night, the perfect thing to sneak out for. It wasn’t the first time she’d snuck out so late, least of all to visit Link. Soon enough the two met up outside of Castle Town, at which point they hopped onto Epona, where he took her to Lake Hylia.

Around this time of night, the lake was illuminated quite beautifully by the moon. The perfect place to break the news, he thought.

“So, Link, what did you want to show me?”

He was nervous, as he knew exactly what he wanted to show her... but he didn’t know how she would react. On one hand, this was his closest friend, and he needed to be honest - both with her, and with himself... but on the other hand, she was his closest friend. If he messed this up, he’d be alone again.

Taking her hands, he takes a deep breath. His mind is racing, his heart is pounding, and above all else he feels as though the weight of the moon is coming down on his shoulders once again. Eventually, he finds the courage to speak.

“...I wanted to show you... how I feel about you...”

With that, he places a hand on her cheek and leans in for a gentle kiss, and as their lips touch...

A dream. A recurring one, at that. The details may not always be the exact same, but it always ends the same; a kiss, only to end up waking up before he can even see how she can react. It was certainly a hard thing to come to grips with, as he’d never felt this way before... but he couldn’t have feelings for her. Not out of denial of their existence, but out of a self-imposed duty.

He tried to stay as far away from people as possible, not wanting to drag them into his issues, and trying to make sure he didn’t get attached to them, to not reveal too much... the last person he’d want to hurt with his emotions is Zelda. He didn’t know what he’d do if she ever saw who he really was these days. He’s not the same hero he used to be, not a knight in shining armor come to protect his princess... just some kid, scared and alone in the world. 

So, like every other night, he told himself that it was just a dumb dream, and tried to fall back asleep in the hopes that he wouldn’t have it again... no sense having hope for a future like that after all, least of all with a princess.
