AIGHT SO ABOUT THE AU - IT'S BASED ON A SONG
The song is called "Blessed Messiah and the Tower of Ai"...if you know the song then I’m mildly sure you have a sneaking suspicion about where this is going BUT FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT, A L L O W M E T O E L A B O R A T E
So there is a story that is passed down through Fodlan’s record books, talking about how when humanity began growing too arrogant, the goddess struck them down. It was only thanks to the messiah that the world was saved, appeasing the goddess who allowed the world to continue on. She contained all of the world’s energies in a tower, dubbed the Tower of Sothis, and every thousand years or so a messiah was sent to the Tower in order to bring the world’s nine blessings to the top of the Tower and show the goddess that the world could continue on.
However many years later, Claude von Riegan finds himself being chosen as the next messiah. He is definitely surprised, but he agrees to the role regardless. And of course, the Golden Deer refuse to let him go alone. The entire journey, their bonds with one another only grow stronger. They all know that, no matter the pain they face, they will face both sorrow and joy together. At last, after a long and arduous journey, they reach the Tower of Sothis. They enter, and they reach the first blessing, the [Blossoming Wave of the Sea]. Claude reaches out to go grab it, but he is stopped.
Lorenz steps forward, an unreadable expression before turning to Claude with a cruel grin. Pushing Claude out of the room, he mockingly laughs out what had been their motto until they reached the tower;
“We will face all of our fortune and pain as one!”
And the door slams shut behind him.
Claude is left in complete disbelief. What just happened? Had...had Lorenz really just betrayed him? Just so he could have the blessing all for himself? That...That won’t happen again, right? They were friends, he trusted them all...
...but was his trust misplaced?
....it seemed that it was.
One by one, each of the blessings were stolen.
Taken by the people he had called friends, who he had trusted to go on this journey with him.
Was he really being naive to think that they wouldn’t be overcome with greed at the thought of owning one of the world’s blessings for themselves?
He thought he could trust them.
Because in the end...
...everyone abandoned him. They all betrayed him, so overcome with greed for the blessings that they chose power over their promise. But what could he do? All of the blessings were gone now. All he could do now was go to the top of the tower, and hope that he could appease the goddess on his own.
