i had a dream last night that i was hanging out with varric at a party but his necklace was made of toes not like severed toes like one long foot wreath and they wiggled whenever he laughed and there was a part where like he shivered cause we were on the balcony and the toes retracted into tiny ball shapes cause they were cold

Now this is playing hardmode, babe! I'll say this is for most incarnations, not just B22.

The one-sided rivalry. Eddie might have some striking similarities to him, but he's still not his thematic foil, his former friend/lover/mentor, or another troubled soul. The beef (and hence the tension) is hilariously petty in any version. He either needs to prove he's smarter than Bruce through a series of convoluted puzzles, or is incredibly salty he's Not That Into Him, or both. And meanwhile Bruce Literally Did Not Ask but may be drawn to him nonetheless.

It's probably the most "why are you so obsessed with me" of the Bat/Rogue ships across all incarnations, which makes it incredibly funny. In the comics, Eddie once set up an entire elaborate scheme to get Bruce to have dinner with him, and in B22...well, we all saw how that went down. Whether you like the villainous obsession trope in the flavour of "you are my idol" or "Stupid Sexy Flanders", it delivers!!!!!!

Look, say what you will about Hush, but when Bruce said he knew Edward better than anyone else, and that's why he'll never let slip about his secret identity....when B22 Edward looked at Bruce with loathing and then at Batman and said "hope incarnate, the mask is the real you", when they've worked together and worked well because their intellects and skills are complementary...as funny as a lot of this ship is, there's just a depth of understanding there that's compelling!
