Do you guys ever think Reiah held baby Abolish's face in her two hands and started crying because she knew he was never going to have a normal life. Because Reiah knew she and Alaric had too much blood on their hands—innocent or not—to ever be able to raise a normal child. But she still had hope. Hope that Abolish will grow up loved. He will have the most normal childhood they can give them, they will try.
What do you think she thought about in her last moments? Did she even get to have those or was there too much pain to even think, because there was no way she would get a quick and painless death. Do you think she looked at Alaric and saw an apologetic look in his eyes, even when he was dying, because he was truly sorry that her attempt at letting Abolish have a normal childhood wouldn't matter anymore.
Do you think about how they fought more than they ever had before, they had to. They had a child. Do you think Alaric can never forgive himself for letting that hope be crushed? Do you think Reiah can never forgive herself for having hope in first place? For not being prepared enough?
And after taking Abolish in Morcant can never stop seeing fragments of them in Abolish. It's like he's being haunted by his friends (though he may have loved them as more, he will never admit that out loud). and worst of all he begins to see himself in Abolish too.
The boy starts to act more like him than it does like its parents. Do you think he feels some level of guilt? That he feels like he's ruining their legacy by making their only child like himself. Because he's inserting himself into their family again (he never did. Alaric and Reiah always welcomed him and that made it worse).
this came out longer than I expected I just had a lot of thoughts about Reiah and then Reiah + Alaric and then Morcant. They could've all been together but Morcant just couldn't and now he's alone grieving his dearest friends and he will continue to do so until everyone who knew the Veylockes is either dead or has long forgotten about them—expect for him and Abolish. The only fragments of them left .
