“Can I be honest with you for a second, mate?” He leans over the table, almost tipping over his mug of beer in the process. “It gets really fuckin’ old, all of this. I just--- like, it’s been three months since I won W.imbledon, right? And for three months, I haven’t been able to so much as leave my house without a police escort. Everyone tells me I should up and move to Monaco, but it just seems like it’s full of rich arseholes and I don’t wanna leave Melbourne, but--- dear God, I feel like I can’t even take a shit in peace here anymore.”

      "Round up the usual suspects." its a soft whisper shared between him and oliver, a furrowed brow drawn as his green eyes flicker over the open files on the cold table. fingertips idle as they tap out a song he’d heard on the radio earlier on his way into office.

Jay pushes the urge to speak down. They manage a head shake, and stay focused on kneading dough. A pointed look from one of the other servants makes them reconsider though. “Ah, I wanted to know if I was needed anywhere besides the banquet tonight? My hip has been bothering me all day.” 

And Elias is attending tonight. One thing they’ll never reveal their anxieties over. If he sees or hears them, they’re done for. He’ll recognize them on the spot and everything will be over. Unfortunately they get another glare from the others. “I have things to attend to anyway, personal things. I’ll absolutely finish helping with the food prep! But after that I need to make sure things are all in order for my personal duties.” 

No matter how hard the others push them, they are not going to reveal themself.

     ⋯⋯⋯     There’s tired groaning, shifting where he’s sat before bringing his hands up to haphazardly rub at his face and finally open his eyes.  His vision’s not so much spinning anymore  ―  his impromptu nap had kicked out some of the effects, it seems  ―  but he can still feel a buzz.  Jesus, how much did this little guy drink?

“ I’m― fine.  God, you’re loud. ”  It’s hardly convincing, how slurred his words still are.  “ Jus‒ Jus’ help me up.  I gotta‒ I gotta get back t’ my fam’ly. ”  There’s a pause for him to glance around, trying to get a grip on his surroundings despite his vision’s smearing.

“ . . .Didn’t I pass out somewhere else? ”

           ‘ do you know the band? ‘ her beer hung loosely from her fingers as she glanced towards the stage where they were doing a few last minute sound checks. ‘ i just saw the flyer while i was at the laundromat and had nothing else to do. ‘

        “why?  it’s true, isn’t it?  you don’t exactly belong   here anymore, roxanne.”  she sighs, clearly exasperated.  for whatever reasons the other decided to throw herself off the top of the social pyramid, veronica couldn’t even remember, and she supposed she didn’t really care.  once somebody was out of that little circle, there was no getting back in.  not unless roxie was suddenly dating one of the popular guys, but she was sure that wasn’t the case.  “and would it have killed you to lay off of a cig before coming over here?  the rest of us are practically secondhand smoking with the way the tobacco’s reeking off of you right now.”

                           a low grin strings itself against the youngest marshall’s lips as his eyes cut to peer at charlie, blonde brows arching on his forehead as she shrugs his shoulders. what had he been up too? beyond the normal rodeo madness and of course flirting with every woman that walked by; he couldn't quite admit it but he’d been tucked away in an alcove discussing the next contest with mitch bowers, renowned judge and rodeo master himself. he’d been congratulated for his performance, but aaron had other plans up his sleeves like name dropping charlie to him without hesitation. after all what good was his connections if he couldn't get his friends in to rub elbows with the finest. 

                             “ nuthin’ too concerning. just that ugh i may have mentioned your name to mitch bower’s and he’s now looking forward to seeing you in the next competition.” 

                             aaron knew charlie preferred his air races more than the foot one down here on the ground, but then again the guy had talent and he wanted him to show it off. lips roll together before his beer is brought to his lips and a deep swig is taken as he cuts his eyes toward his friend, the expression he wore a thinly veiled attempt to witness his friends excitement which is what aaron was hoping for.
