January 27 - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született - Venetian Snares
Rossz Csillag Alatt Született by Venetian Snares
Bandcamp / Youtube
I think Venetian Snares was present when a friend of mine wedded two of her friends at Bangface. I believe the opening line of the ceremony was "Dearly becunted, we are slathered here today" and I think that's beautiful. It was either Venetian Snares or Ladyscraper, but I'm learning more towards VS.
I believe they are still married. You couldn't not be married after a line like that.

Purple occasionally glances at you; he can see you alright. Probably. Maybe you’re only hidden from the people of this time.
"What… is the future like? Is it peaceful? Does it last?" She sounds oddly vulnerable, for all the calm confidence she showed earlier.
You haven’t known Purple all that long. You met him only weeks ago, from your perspective, and you’ve met twice during that time. You’re not close. You have no idea what he’s going to say...
“There is peace in the future,” Purple starts, and you remember he’s a historian. “There is war too. Sometimes war and peace happen simultaneously in different places. Peaceful times will come and go like the tides, never truly gone... but there won’t be any peace if we don’t fight for it.”
You and Hyacinth both contemplate this, in silence for a long moment. You, because you realize how young you are; how small your knowledge of the world is, and how little clarity conflict leaves, on how much it will impact the future.
You can’t tell what she’s thinking, but she says “I see, thank you,” and motions Purple to follow after her. You do too. Even if she doesn’t know you’re here, you don’t want to get lost.
You slowly trek back down the hill together. Purple looks concerned about your mobility, but you manage, only slipping a few times.
“Where do you think the other... dreams... could be?” Hyacinth asks. You don’t know, yourself. Last time you found yourself stuck in a dream, someone else sent you back, and you didn’t see Seaweed anywhere.
Purple shrugs. “I’m not sure, but Evets was with me... He’s a man a bit older than me, his hair is black and his skin is very white, like, hm. Like the white of your eye.”
“His most distinguishable feature is his chin looks like a butt,” you joke, and Purple snorts, rolling his eyes at you. Hyacinth just looks confused.
“His hair is black..? What kind of plant is it? I don’t know a plant with black leaves.”
Oh yeah. This woman would never have met anyone who wasn’t an Ecoversian... that weird you out! Everything is weird! But it’s going to be fine. Probably.
“It’ll look like black grass to you,” Purple answers smoothly, and she nods.
A few minutes later, you are greeted by a village.
There’s a dozen habitations you can see, snug between trees, on either side of the river. There’s a bridge; it’s not stone like you would see back home, but a living tree, likely grown by magic. Some of the inhabitants are hurt, you see, sporting bandages or bruises, but they all smile when they see your companion stroll in, like they already knew she was coming. Perhaps she was noticed ahead of time.
This isn’t peaceful times, after all. There must be guards you didn’t see... right?
“I found what made the river sick,” Hyacinth announces softly, “you will be alright now, but keep boiling the water before you drink it.” Cheers shoot through the clearing, though short-lived as they return to their occupations as Hyacinth pretexts being tired.
Hyacinth enters one of the houses with no hesitation. It’s small, a single room with a rudimentary mattress, and you know this is far in the past, but even for this time it must be quite unusually barren.
“I am not supposed to be here,” Hyacinth starts. “My parents wanted me to stay hidden and safe; I could not follow their will at the price of my people’s suffering, so I ran from my escorts. I know I cannot soothe Malus’s anger... but I cannot do nothing, especially when all this suffering was caused by people such as I...”
She stops herself abruptly, and changes the subject. “The villages in this forest are settlements of the magicless. They were hiding from the magician Masters all these years, isolating themselves for freedom.” You can follow, somewhat, because you read Purple’s book, and you learned some of this in class. “But because of this, they are not strongly aligned with Malus’s movement. They were willing to listen to me... I thought by helping and uplifting them I would be able to reach out to Malus’s army, show them there could still be a way to work together.”
She hugs herself and kneels on the ground. You glance at Purple; he is enraptured by her words, history played out right in front of his eyes. Despite the dramatic times, this is a golden opportunity for a historian, you suppose.
“That didn’t work,” he completes for her when she doesn’t continue. She nods. “Those who spoke in your defense were killed, weren’t they?”
Hyacinth looks away. “It seems that I cannot allow anyone to speak on my behalf, even if it would be their place to do so. I must do so myself.”
She sighs. “The night will fall sooner than you think.” She traces an eye-like pattern in the dirt, then immediately erases it. “It wouldn’t be wise to search for your friend now... but it would also be unwise to let them stay alone and lost overnight. What would you rather do? And do you have any clue as to where “Evets” could be, or how to find them?”
What do you decide?
