I haven’t posted many updates on my tutoring adventures lately but I just wanted to say that I am so proud of one of my seniors. Kid spent literally half the year choosing to not work and making excuses. He told me so many times that he hated me because I was such a stickler when grading his work. But after I called him out on plagiarism that one time (I posted about it a while back), his attitude really changed. I think part of the reason he’d been so defiant was because I was a new face and because of that I couldn’t possibly care about him. He’d grown accustomed to people not really caring about where he was headed in life, but when he finally understood that his best interest was also mine as well and that I wasn’t going to let him botch things up for himself, his attitude towards his work changed. He finished all his lingering schoolwork from prior years in less than a month and is currently flying through his remaining classes. This kid is so ready to take on the world. He may be a lazy underachiever a lot of the time but I really can’t wait to see him soar now that he’s discovered his wings.
