The Hello Fresh gift boxes from my parents are being put to good use around here. Meal #1 was beef bulgogi bowls - totally not something I’d ever think to cook myself (it seems so exotic!) but they were so tasty. Next up: some kinda pork tacos and hot/sweet honey chicken breast.
Speaking of gifts, my brother and sister in law just bought their first home, and so we decided to gift them a big star-shaped blanket that I made a while back. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it, but that seemed right. I shipped it out to them yesterday and can’t wait til they get it.
Baby snuggles continue to be the best part of my day. I’m starting to learn the noises he makes when he needs to be picked up from a nap and burped, which seems small, but feels like a revelation. Looking back on the past 4(!) weeks since he was born, I feel like for the first 2 weeks at least, I couldn’t really see straight. I remember that time in a dizzying kind of blurry way. Now, though, I feel like I’m finally gaining some clarity back. Phew.
I’ve let myself have some more food treats lately - cookies, brownies and ice cream, m&ms - and so I expected to see the scale continue to stall. To my surprise, I stepped on the scale randomly in the middle of the day Wednesday and it was down another few pounds. This whole breastfeeding thing is no joke. Major calorie burner.
Another joyful thing which has come from the birth of Pep is that we’re talking/texting with family and friends more than we have in a long while. My dad now does this super cute thing where every weekend morning he sends me a pic of that day’s word puzzle from his newspaper so we can do the puzzle together. Every week night at 7:30, he texts me and B the final jeopardy question, and we all try to guess the answer. We’ve been sending lots of cute baby pics to friends and family. There’s lots of warmth and love to be had, which is a bright spot in my life for sure. It’s so necessary especially right now because we can’t have everyone here with us.
MIL is coming to visit in a few hours. Really excited to have her meet the little pipsqueak!
