VERSE OF THE DAY:
JOHN 1:29
The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
THE LAMB OF GOD
Have you ever wanted a really long time for something important? Maybe you spent weeks waiting to see an old friend, for news about a medical diagnosis, or for someone to respond to a message you sent them.
In the first century, the people of God had waited hundreds and hundreds of years for the coming of a Savior. John the Baptist was sent to be the forerunner of that coming Savior. God planned for John to prepare the people for Jesus' arrival, and call them back to repentance.
John waited his whole life for Jesus. He spent his days in eager anticipation of the coming of a Savior who would save his people. And on that day when Jesus did arrive, John the Baptist cried out in excitement.
John calls Jesus the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. In the old covenant, lambs were sacrificed on behalf of the sins of the people. Their sacrifices were a temporary means to restore a person's relationship with God.
But Jesus' coming heralds a new covenant between God and His people.
Jesus' death is a sacrifice on our behalf, but one that's permanent and complete. Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection pave a path for us to enjoy a restored relationship with God, and to live in freedom from sin. This is the new covenant that John the Baptist is describing when he says that Jesus takes away the sin of the world.
Take a moment this morning to thank God for the amazing gift that Jesus offers to each and every one of us. Because of Jesus' faithfulness, we can walk in new life and enjoy a restore relationship with God.
Think of one small step you can take to share this good news with someone who doesn't yet know Jesus. This free gift is a great news for every single person, and we are given the privilege of sharing it with everyone.
BE ENCOURAGED
God didn't abandon us to our sin. Instead, He put on skin and took our place- becoming the ultimate and final sacrifice.
SHARE YOUR FAITH
Think of one small step you can take to share this Good News with someone who doesn't yet know Jesus.
Father God, thank You for sending Your only Son to save us. Thank You for creating a way for us to know You personally. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, my sins are forgiven! Help me to never take this for granted. I want to glorify You in every area of my life, forever. In Jesus' name, Amen.
1 JOHN 4:16
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God and God lives in them.
"God is love" Repeat that statement. Tell God what that means to you right now.
PROVERBS 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
What do you need to trust God with today?
Picture yourself bringing your concerns to God, and hand them to Him one by one.
God, When I look around me, I am amazed at all You have done and created. You created the leaves that blow in the wind, and the wind itself. You made the sky and the trees and yet You took the greatest delight in creating people like me. Thank You for showing us endless grace and love. Thank You for giving us life and purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.

JESUS FORGIVES AND HEALS A PARALYZED MAN
they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”25Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.
JESUS CALLS LEVI AND EATS WITH SINNERS
After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,”Jesus said to him, 28and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.32I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
JESUS QUESTIONED ABOUT FASTING
No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.39And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’ ”
HEBREWS 12:1-3
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
INSIGHT
Because of severe persecution (see Hebrews 10:32-39; 13:3), Jewish believers in Jesus were pressured to abandon their faith and revert to Judaism. The unnamed writer of Hebrews encourages these embattled believers to remain faithful by “keeping [their] eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (12:2 nlt). He reminds us of the superiority of Christ, who as God Himself is the final revelation of God (chs. 1-4). Jesus—through His sacrificial work as the superior High Priest and as the once-for-all perfect sacrifice for sin—is the only one who can truly save (chs. 5-10). The writer likens our journey of faith to a long-distance foot race. The lives of faith of the saints who’ve completed their races (see ch. 11) inspire us to persevere to complete our race by keeping our eyes fixed on Christ, our champion who Himself endured challenges and completed the race (12:1-3).

KEEP GOING BY FAITH
To become a lawyer in California, Maxcy Filer had to pass the state’s grueling, three-day bar exam. So he took it not once, not twice, but forty-eight times before passing the tough test. His goal? To advocate for the underprivileged in Compton, his beloved city. Between his first and last attempts at passing the exam—across twenty-five years—Filer and his wife raised seven children, all who went to college. When Filer was sworn in, the judge said, “Three words about Maxcy Filer: perseverance, perseverance, perseverance.”
His story prompts me to think of people in the Bible who persevered. The writer of Hebrews recognized some: Noah, who “by his faith . . . became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith” (11:7). Or Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (vv. 8-21), Moses (vv. 23-28), and others. Such examples inspire us.
The writer then exhorts believers in Christ: “Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” (12:1). We then read, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (v. 1). How will we do this? By “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (v. 2). As we consider Christ’s sacrifice for us, we “will not grow weary and lose heart” (v. 3).
Challenges to our faith give us opportunity to endure in His name. In His power, we persevere.

HEAVENLY HORTICULTURE
Whether your thumb is green or not, when it comes to the Christian life, God wants you to grow. But what does it look like to be a flourishing plant in God’s garden? Plants need four things to live—dirt, air, light, and water—and there are correlations in each of those to our walk with the Lord.
Dirt: Genesis says that God created man out of the dust of the earth. We must remember that we are nothing but dust—humble jars of clay.
Air: Every breath we are given comes from the Lord.
Light: Jesus calls himself the “light of the world.” God has embedded in our souls a process similar to photosynthesis; we must be in contact with the light constantly, not sporadically.
Water: Jesus once famously asked, “Is anyone thirsty?” and then promised that if anyone thirsted, they could come to him to be satisfied. The Scriptures often equate water to the Spirit, the Word of God, and worship. These are the means by which we remain spiritually hydrated.
When these elements come together we will “bear much fruit.” If God is a gardener, and if we are all branches on His vine, then when we bear fruit we are playing a part in His end game. The beauty is that others are blessed by this process; those attached to the vine, and those not. In a vine, not every grape has the same purpose—whether raisins, wine, jelly, or juice. Likewise, we all have different gifts that lead us to being used uniquely, helping the whole vine to grow. On top of that, our fruit attracts unbelievers to the vine, thus grafting them into the vine as well.
Remember: God wants you to grow.
JOHN 15
THE VINE AND THE BRANCHES
every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 1I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.14You are my friends if you do what I command. I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.17This is my command: Love each other.
THE WORLD HATES THE DISCIPLES
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.
THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
he will testify about me.27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
