So I've been going through your blog all day and reading everything and I have a quick question: since several of the books were published before Hotel Denouement burned down, do you think Lemony might have changed the characters' names "to protect the innocent"? The books got popular enough that Kit could assign them to her students, and you'd think if the names were the same the people he portrayed as incompetent could at least sue the Publishing Company for use of their image. Well yeah, that’s a cool idea but I suppose you could make this kind of theory about any kind of book? Some people joke is that Rita Skeeter is actually J. K. Rowling’s pen name in the wizarding community and that the “Harry Potter” books are actually his biographies under a different name so the International Statute of Secredy doesn’t get broken. It’s similar.

The issue here is that 99% of the books’ content comes from Lemony’s testimony and no one’s else. There are documents in the un-Authorized Autobiography and “The Beatrice Letters” which were not written by him, but even those are acknowledged as suspicious (and possibly fake) in the text itself. So we have to take everything Lemony says for granted as we have no other source on the subject. If we start assuming he lies about the most important details of the plot, the entire series falls apart.
