Supernatural 05x09-“The Real Ghostbusters”

Towards the end of the episode, the two men who are cosplaying and help the boys are revealed to be partners. Dean is very uncomfortable as he watches the two hold hands, and the taller man rest his head on his partners shoulder (and it’s not just because there being romantic as they’re dressed as him and his brother). As I rewatched the episode, it made me think about Deans internalized homophobia. Seeing someone dress like him and act like him well also getting to love a man both scares him and makes him feel envy. He knows due to how he sees queer people he can never truly accept who he is, and it will never go away completely. He’ll always feel wrong. And dirty. If it’s due to John or not, it’s still there. And it affects Dean all the way to the end, even when Cas is taking his final breaths, and saying a heartfelt goodbye to the other man.
