Liam Payne On His Debut Album & Journey To Solo Stardom
06.29.18
It’s been getting harder,
these days.
I still eat fruit, and rub lotion into
my cheeks at night.
but my legs are becoming
thin and
soft with fat,
the ends of my hair have
turned stiff and dry, like dead wheat
or dried stems.
These are the symptoms of
inertia, perhaps.
a parabolic decline into motionless,
a disease of paralysis,
dormancy, in a conscious mind.
until you’re only the parts of a body,
festering in the stagnant air.
decaying, like the corpses of animals,
waiting for their bones to
dry out under the sun, or disappear into
the soil.
You wait, in those moments.
for the scavengers to strip you, fungus to
break you, sun to eat you and water
to dissolve you.
then, maybe, then
you’ll finally be still.
