in vino veritas
why do some men take one sip of a drink and suddenly think it’s okay if they lean across my seat and tell me how smooth my face looks, how soft my hair seems; why does he place his hand on the glimpse of skin where my socks and jeans don’t quite meet as if i were made just for him? this unwanted touch, it sends bolts through me, and not the kind that electrifies me-- the kind that makes me want to shrivel up and die, the kind that makes me wish my legs could curl back up into the sanctuary of my mind, away from him, away from his smiles, away from his hands, away from his eyes
So I just binged through the Amazon series 'Hanna'
... and while this post is mostly about my weird headcanon alternative universe it's probably still full of SPOILERS so if you still wanna watch it or the 2011 movie and haven't yet, look away now.
Anyways.
While I did like the ending of the series (or season? Is there gonna be more? I'd watch it...) and how they filled in the blanks, it's completely different to what I thought would be the ending of the series and the relations between the characters, so I can't accept it as my headcanon or fit it together with what I thought about the characters in the earlier episodes, like, at all. And because so many blanks have only been filled in so late, it's not just canon divergence but straight-up AU...
So I'm basically just gonna write out my versions of the events here for you guys to ignore or not just bc I feel the need to get it out there :D
- Erik and Marissa worked together, yes- but they were also in love. Reasons I thought so?
He doesn't shoot her when he has the chance (I mean yeah, later cleared up he had his reasons, but as I said in my headcanonverse the reasons are just a bit different)
They both feel deeply betrayed by each other, more than should be the case if they just worked with each other??
The scene where she's their prisoner and he strokes her face (I'm getting back to that one later)
She SO has no chemistry with her wannabe boyfriend and son- maybe she's still thinking about someone else after all those years?
He (kinda) trusts her again when she calls him in the motel, says "I should've known" when the shooting starts, meaning he didn't rly believe that she was gonna do anything, and feels so betrayed again... And she tries so hard to make him believe it's not her fault...
(There's more probably but I'm tired)
- They weren't only together, but Hanna is their child. How and why?
Maybe she wasn't able to get a child herself, or didn't want to get pregnant because of the job
Maybe they didn't think it would be save for a child of theirs to be known to exist...
Maybe she wanted to have her own child in the supersoldier programme...
Either way, it was the perfect plan: get one of those newly-pregnant and newly-recruited women, and not just use her for the programme, but get a doctor to also impregnate her again with their child instead. Who'll know the difference?
The rest of the story might've still gone the same: why did Erik run away with the other woman and Hanna? Maybe he didn't want his child to be part of the programme, maybe he and Marissa had a falling out about something else entirely and she didn't want him to have contact with the organisation nor the child anymore.....
Marissa doesn't shoot at Hanna when she flees in the Helicopter
That speech about being her mother and loving her etc- I was like omg ok the obvious thing is it's all a lie but what if plottwist! It's not!
Back to: When Marissa is taken hostage by Erik etc and he says "I loved Hanna's mother, who did you ever love?" and touches her face, I just thought omg he loved her but thinks she never truly loved him back because she betrayed him
- So in my headcanon AU that is also (of fucking course it is) a EveryoneLivesNobodyDies AU, Marissa runs away from the facility with them in the end, thinks to call a fucking ambulance to meet them halfway, Erik survives, they get out of the country using fake identities Marissa can get them, and they live happily ever after with their own and their adopted kid (yeah Clara is still around ofc, I rly love her).
- and Hanna goes and calls her friends in England at some point to clear up what the hell was even going on all the time
- And sooner or later the ultrax programme gets exposed to the press or sth and it is finally, truly, over.
