Join the TGI Justice Project (TGIJP) and Black Lives Matter Bay Area at 6 pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 8/25) at Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco as we come together in response to the #BlackTransLiberationTuesday call to action. We are making a call to collectively mourn and speak out against the extreme violence that our Black trans* and gender non conforming women, girls and femmes face on a daily basis. 17 trans women of color have been killed in 2015. The average life expectancy of a Black trans woman is 35 years. Black TransWomen are in a state of emergency. Since 2013, 67% of transwomens' death have been black transwomen. This number is constant with the 21 transwomen killed this year: It's only August! Join BYP100's NYC Chapter, Black Lives Matter: NYC & FIERCE! at 7pm tomorrow (8/25) between Flatbush Ave and Atlantic Ave in front of the Barclay's Center as we come together in response to the #BlackTransLiberationTuesday call to action, to collectively mourn and speak out against the extreme violence that our Black trans and gender non conforming women, girls & femmes face on a daily basis. With five trans* women that we know of being killed in the past week alone, we recognize that we are in a state of emergency and that the time to speak our grief, rage and love to power is now! There will also be a Twitter Chat on Tuesday at 12pm EST to call attention to the violence Black trans women face, and to discuss what we can all do to honor the lives of the Black trans women and femmes whose lives have been ended too soon, as well the lives of those who continue to fight for the freedom to survive and thrive every day. The Black Liberation Movement is not a movement until it steps up to demand the freedom of us all. As long as Black femme lives continue to be under attack, we will continue to stand up and fight back. Join us to show support and love to Black trans people, and most especially Black trans women. There are a few ways you can get involved and show support: 1) TODAY - MONDAY, AUGUST 24 - 6:30pm - 9:00pm - Come to our sign-making party at the Georgia Wand office. - 250 Georgia Ave - Suite 202 - Atlanta, GA 30312 *We'll have snacks and all of the materials. Just show up! 2) TUESDAY, AUGUST 25 - 6:00pm - Outside of the Five Points MARTA station. Forsyth Street exit (across from Underground ATL). We will rally and perform. Black trans performers are welcome to do ya thing acapella! 3) Social Media - Come to either the sign-making party and/or the rally and take photos and videos to be broadcast to the world. Around the country black trans women are being murdered and brutalized, often by the people in their lives who claim to love them. The District of Columbia has a long and devastating history of violence, assault and erasure of black trans women -- with a string of unsolved murders still on the books. The movement for black liberation is a movement for trans liberation. Join us on Tuesday as we, cis black people and allies, answer the call to truly love, support and protect our trans sisters.
