ok im gonna do both of these at once to talk about meanswear!!! my first thought was also that character in the waistcoat (im guessing its Griselda the glamour cat the Masters’ new aide, bc fbg rarely surprise me) was wearing menswear, but thats not what menswear looked like in 1860s, but is pretty spot-on for turn of the century womenswear (even the hair is right lmao. she looks like the gibson girl) (except for the skinny tie, which wouldnt come into fashion until the1950s)
for most of the 1860s, mens fashion was marked by an almost oversized appearance. to quote fashion historian Jayne Shrimpton, menswear was “easy to wear but rather shapeless, and because of [its] untailored style, even the dapper mid-Victorian man of fashion known as a “swell” appeared to contemporaries somewhat languid or drooping.”
some example pics!
my big problem with trench coat guy is that hes wearing a trench coat, an item of clothing that didnt exist before WWI. how it feels to me is that like... look in FBG’s blog post they said the game is inspired by Film Noir, and they just made a character whose design begins and ends with “film noir detective”
but like i said in the tags on my original post, its not AS bad, mostly because menswear is pretty boring and kind of same-y through most of the 19th century
also why do none of the men in the promo picture have any facial hair. @FBG why are you afraid of making your men hot
