A Day in the Life of Jack Harkness (Chapter 1)
Jack paused, tapping his pen against his lip as he reached up to remove the flakes from his dark locks. “These reports just don’t add up….” He murmured to himself, absent-mindedly reaching for Ariadne’s bowl and putting some of the cereal into his mouth.
“No, no, no! Mine, Daddy! Mine!” Ariadne scolded, pulling her bowl out of his reach.
Raven snickered. She hopped to her feet, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. “Welp! I’m out!” she announced.
Jack grabbed the belt-loop on her jeans without taking his eyes off the computer screen. “Oh, no you’re not.” He said, taking a bite of his toast and turning to face her. “I need you to watch your sister while I check on some leads.”
“Daaaaad!” Raven whined. “You always leave me with her!” Ariadne blew a raspberry, throwing cereal in Raven’s hair too. Raven frowned, shaking it out. “You work too much.” She grinned. “Let’s take a vacation!”
Jack sighed. “We can’t take a vacation, Rae. Gwen and I are the only ones left in Torchwood. I can’t slack off.”
“Dada tired.” Ariadne whimpered, giving Jack a look that made his heart melt.
He smiled gently. “No, I’m alright, kiddo.” He said, ruffling her hair. He closed his computer, standing up and putting it in its sleeve before pulling the strap over his shoulder. Raven sighed, handing him a to-go mug of coffee. He kissed her, then Ariadne, and hurried out the door, the sound of Ariadne’s cries following him.
