0stackcats0 reblogged your photoset:Raising hell in Charlestown, for @0stackcats0 <3
Perfect thank you!! This is still my favourite episode. Nassau’s two biggest badasses outsmarting the law and reminding...
Welcome! Ooh, that last bit makes me wanna go back and re-read a couple of AO3 fics about that particular scenario. ;)

may i suggest flint and vane raising hell in charlestown?
I was juuuuust thinking about doing something from that ep, so yes, it shall be done!
Do you have any ideas on how Woodes Rogers knows Flint's real name? I'm assuming that in order to put Flint and Hamilton together, he must know that he is the-artist-formerly-known-as McGraw. I'm wondering if Eleanor told him, and if so, how did she know? How MUCH does she know? Maybe I'm entirely missing something but I don't remember that being explained on the show and now I'm curious!
oh gosh. this was one of those things that I told myself to pay close attention to during my last watch, and then I got lost tracking other ideas/threads and forgot to keep an eye it :^) AHHHH. so I may be missing stuff here, too. you’re right that it’s never made explicit how eleanor knows, though.
it’s also unclear how much information rogers has. he definitely knows that flint was involved with thomas, but I don’t know if he (and eleanor) suspect the nature of their relationship. he’s a smart man, and it’s possible that he would play the “thomas hamilton” card even without knowing all the details of thomas’ and flint’s relationship just to assess flint’s reaction.
and I don’t believe we ever see eleanor coming to these conclusions/finding out - we just are told that she knows. (in the episode where rogers brings it up, he explicitly says that eleanor informed him that flint was involved in those efforts with thomas and peter ashe in the past.) but we do know for sure that her father knows! (or, well, knew…as by that point he was dead.) but yeah, richard is the one who sees the portrait of miranda and thomas in miranda’s house, and when he confronts miranda about it, he seems to know a great deal about what the “story” was. he also is able to piece together that flint was the lieutenant who was involved in the affair - “As for Thomas’s wife, she’s said to have fled London along with her lover. Partly out of shame, partly to escape retribution. Given the facts at hand, I am forced to assume that the lover is none other than our friend Captain Flint.”
so we know for sure that richard guthrie figured it out. and if he knew that flint was mcgraw, I just assumed that he must’ve told eleanor, and then she later told rogers. but like I said, I’m not sure how much rogers is aware of - does he have an inkling of the extent of what happened or is he just guessing that the name “thomas” would have an emotional impact on james, and he was watching for flint’s reaction?! it seems to me like the latter is true, that he doesn’t know all the gritty details and he really was just going off of the bits of information he had, but I’m not sure! :3
I’m still a little fuzzy on this myself but I’m pretty sure we’re left to put the pieces of how eleanor figured it out together ourselves. if anyone else wants to jump in with better evidence/anything I’m forgetting, feel free! >:)

Have you noticed that Jeremy and James almost...
calling friends by their surname is a British thing. it doesn’t mean they are any less close to him than each other. I used to get called by my surname at school, it’s an odd bonding thing? idk why, but calling someone by their surname is either extremely formal (I’ve just met you and you outrank me so I shall call you Mr X) or extremely informal.
I didn’t think it was any less intimate, I imagine they are all very close, it’s just the sudden switch in the address manner - Richard calls them both by first names, too, after all. To me, calling him Hammond sounds a bit like fond patronising of a younger friend. :) Sounds a bit amusing, tho, especially since James and Jeremy only use each other’s last names when severely pissed off with each other. :)
identity ask: 2, 22, 30
thanks !! <3
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
i wouldn’t say ‘just like me’ because that’d be kinda pretentious, but i relate a lot to Apollinaire’s writings. the weirdness, trying new things, all over the place, with the underlying sadness &the plays on words.
22. list the top five things you spend the most time doing, in order.
oh shit, never really thought of that, sleeping would probs be #1 tho ? i need tons of sleep. after that, there’s (not really in order), daydreaming, baking, finding a job (soon replaced by ‘working’ since i found one. *pops champagne*), and wasting my time on the internet (which includes reading &watching shows.)
30. pick one of your favorite quotes.
only one... argh.
"- Que deviennent les rêves qui se brisent ?- Les rêves ne se brisent pas.- Que deviennent les rêves qui se brisent ?- Le terreau des rêves à venir." (Pierre Bottero)
“- What do broken dreams become ?- Dreams don’t break.- What do broken dreams become ?- The breeding ground of dreams to come.”
a very cool ask meme.
how're you going with Black Sails?
3.02 All the ladies in this show own me. Somehow Max keeps getting more and more beautiful and amazing and I love her whole dynamic with Bonny. I’m very unhappy about Miranda, though. Flint gives me life. I wish Silver had a haircut, but that’s personal preference. Overall, it’s everything I ever wanted on a tv show about pirates.
Edit to add that I hate Vane, but i love hating him.

very cute. also! chatham is my hometown so I got a bit excited at the idea of James and Thomas hanging out there. Thanks for that!
Oh cool! Just did some quick research; I like having the names of specific places, even in quick fics. :)
