3 days since my last update... wowee. So, uh, I can't go to the school dance we're having because, according to the dean of my grade lvl, I'm failing science! Which... I was failing science last Friday. But not last Thursday. Or yesterday when she said that!!! So I was very very sad. But I'm sorta okay now. Another one with oomf Jane, it took me a minute to decide how I feel about this. Fun sexy 80s action fantasy design sensibilities with some pretty great animation and I like Lemnear's design a lot but the degree to which Lemnear jobs to prop up the boring male hero as well as the pervasive sexual assault scenes debasing Lemnear to begin with drag down the experience. It's a brisk 45 minutes though so like, I had enough fun I suppose.

MAL is dead rn so I can't screenshot but I watched 2 episodes of Blue Gender as it's this month's mugwatch and I dropped it because it's BAD!!!!!!!

Watched with oomf @yurisorcerer over the course of a little bit, this is a prequel to a tokusatsu movie I haven't seen but that didn't seem to matter all that much since ostensibly that movie and its proper sequel don't even really incorporate very much from this anyway and thus it kinda gets to work very standalone. Not that it would even matter much afterwards because this is a fairly plot-light thing in the first place, effectively summed up with cool action girl fights a big scary monster across a few different fantastical planets with a fairly simplistic supporting cast.

It's nothing amazing and is even fairly held back by the prominence of the character Kei, just a snot-nosed annoying brat anime kid who can be annoying to Iria but have enough of a heart of gold to remind her of her past self. Kei is just annoying and the comparisons the narrative draws between her and Iria are overbearing and I don't really understand where she's supposed to fall in terms of target demographic because she makes this otherwise pretty serious action anime feel like a crappy 90s shounen or something. Unfortunately she's enough of a presence throughout the thing to really diminish a lot of the enjoyment I think I'd otherwise be having but oh well.

The real joy in this is that Iria herself is cool and bad as fuck and the design sensibilities across the entire OVA just rule. So many inventive designs for weapons and outfits and the world and especially the vehicles, this is a contraption ass setting and they do a good job having a completely unique vibe that's compelling enough to make the OVA worth watching on its own. It also showcases a lot of different technological levels within its setting which is something that feels really immersive, like they have teleport pads but there's also just like a shitty fuckin slow elevator to take vehicles up a steep incline. Lots of different ways one can fly and float in this setting and it's all very fun. The design sense is what I'll remember this OVA for down the line. Neat.
