"Maybe I'll start swimming!"

Last night at approx. 9:12pm EST, a kid named Joseph Schooling from Singapore bested Michael Phelps in the 100m fly AND set a new Olympic record. Your 1st response is probably gonna be “What?!”, to be quickly followed by “Who?!”. Not so much “Where?!” anymore, thanks to Tony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern. Even more stunning, there were 3 silver medalists, Phelps was 1. Probably the only time in Olympic history this has ever happened.

For those of us who hail from Satan’s Sauna (aka the hot humid equatorial isle of Singapore) and is living elsewhere, we could feel the entire country holding it’s breath for the 50 seconds or so. And then imploding. Pride, joy, and even disbelief. But mostly pride.

Well done kid, even if you don’t swim another stroke, you’ve made history. And inspired a new slew of swimmers.
