Rolling along with the @uprr #100yearchallenge, we offer up: Then: First run of the Big Stony Railway Company Locomotive #1. Big Stony Railway acquired by Norfolk & Western in 1905 and the line was extended and operated as its Potts Valley Branch. Now: Norfolk Southern’s AC44C6M #4002, wearing the "Roanoke Horse Mane" paint scheme, leads train 187 west into Columbus, Georgia, with 168 cars of mixed freight bound for Birmingham, Ala., from Macon, Ga. This engine is a rebuilt former NS Dash 9-40C unit with AC traction and GE wide nose and cab. In 2017, Norfolk Southern embarked on a plan to convert some of our older Dash 9 DC locomotives to AC traction power, which improves their reliability and efficiency. #TrainsWithFriends (at Columbus, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bsy2MyknqAg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=e3cctsrr93j
