Three weeks after testing positive for Covid-19, Titchen was discharged from Birmingham City Hospital in the UK.

“She is our oldest patient to beat the virus — and may well be the oldest in the country to do so,” the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust said Wednesday.

Nurses at the hospital lined the corridor to applaud the great-grandmother of eight as she was wheeled out to be sent home.

106 Year Old Virginia McLaurin Finally Makes it to the White House

I had the pleasure of meeting Virginia McLaurin in 2011 when she was 102 years old. “I never thought I’d get this age,” McLaurin said. Ms. McLaurin also talked about how happy she was to be “a part” of seeing a Black President.

In 2011, she volunteered at the DC Public School Sharp, a school for mentally and physically disabled children. She also was a foster grandparent for the United Planning Organization for over 20 years.

Ms. McLaurin was a guest at Walmart’s “Older Americans Day” where older Americans were given the opportunity to explore the America I AM: The African American Imprint exhibit.  The event, which was sponsored by  Walmart and the National Council on Aging, was held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC.

Four years later and Ms. McLaurin not only made it to the White House, she got to meet and dance with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. See the video
