I just had this idea that... I've written plenty of heartbreak songs and have put them all together, but when you listen to heartbreak songs, they sound very selfish. Just like, 'Oh, poor me! I'm so sad! Here I am looking out a window, and it's raining against that window,' you know what I mean? It's just so like, 'Ugh, please, c'mon. Give it a break!' So when I was coming up with the idea, you know, I was just sorta trying to think about all the different, like, emotions and all the different sides of going through a breakup, whether it be from the other person's side - so I've written songs from the other person's side, what I think is their opinion - my side, other people's visions on it... Then I've written songs like Nice To Meet Ya, where I've just gone out with my friends, and they're the kinds of emotions you go through when you break up with someone. It's not just like, 'I'm so sad,' it's like actually there ARE days where you're like, 'I'm out tonight!' and then the next day, you're really sad. So I wanted to write songs, and even when I did the tracklist the other day, I was just trying to tell a story in the tracklist. So it might be, like, the first two songs are about a similar time, and then it kind of goes throughout the relationship, and then bulk of the songs are the sad ones at the end, but, um, yeah. I was just trying to think of how you write a heartbreak album from loads of different angles, instead of it all being about yourself.
