In 1208, Francis of Assisi was inspired to devote himself to a life of poverty. He gave up his belongings and walked around the countryside in a coarse woolen tunic, preaching to villagers about peace, penance, and love for animals and the earth. He is the founder of the Franciscan order, well known for their cheerful disposition, generosity and loud singing. He is also the patron saint of ecologists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi Illustrated by Lihie Jacob
