Hi! I'm using Genki 1 to learn Japanese and I'm wondering how to go about learning the kanji. The introduction says I'm not required to learn the orthography of the kanji in the vocab section, but do need to be able to write the ones in the writing section. Do you or any of your followers have any advice? I am using it as a homeschool course, so I'm pretty much self-studying. Thank you!
Hmm! I don’t have any specific advice for Genki, as I’ve never used it - but I kinda disagree with that premise, because writing kanji is easy. As a guideline, strokes start from the top left and move to the bottom right - you can see examples in this post here. You may not need to know how to write the ones in the vocab section, but it’s not that much work to do it! (To memorize them takes time, sure, but actually writing them, not so much.)
My suggestion would be to start learning to write the ones in the writing section, but not to ignore/skip on writing the ones in the vocab section entirely. It’s not true for everyone, but for me at least, writing kanji physically actually helps me remember them.
Followers who have used Genki, feel free to chime in!
Jonas Brothers “Sucker” Choreography by Guy Groove, performed by Hannah
This is my first ever dance video and I’m celebrating getting back to my hip hop/urban dance roots as I abandoned it for a while in favor of K-pop, but I”m back now! (sorry, K-pop fans, it’s just not me). Just a disclosure, I am not a jazz dancer but I fell in love with this choreography, so please forgive my mistakes as I’m still learning.
Here’s Guy’s class video, so go check it out!

And the tutorial! If you learn it, tag me @soxrox12, I’d love to watch it!

Hi Jasmine!! You and the studyblr community have inspired me to teach either a study skills or hand lettering class at my homeschool co-op! I can only choose one but I'm not sure which. Whichever one it is I have to have something to teach for a total of 12 one hour classes. Any input you or your followers have is greatly appreciated!
Hmm I honestly love both ideas! I think study skills would be more useful to everyone, but hand lettering is so much fun and a great way to destress..... I would consider myself indecisive but I’m not sure
Hey y’all please vote on this poll and tell us which you’d rather take!

i think that study skills might be easier to do if you want to cover new content for each class. hand lettering might be better if you just wanna have a laid back and more continuous (is that the right word for it??) class curriculum. either one sounds lovely though! good luck!
If I can't sleep I just start praying! I'll usually start a rosary video on YouTube and it puts me right to sleep! Now I don't know if you're religious, but even if you aren't I'd suggest learning some simple prayers and just say them on your head over and over or search rosary videos! So far it's been foolproof for me! Best of luck ~Hannah 💕
Hello Hannah,
I’m not religious but I did grow up in a religious family (and used to be religious myself) so I understand what you mean. Thank you for the suggestion! I appreciate it very much.
All the best ♥️
What's your favorite class?
from my current schedule, definitely latin. there hasn’t been a day when i haven’t enjoyed that class :))
What's a good icon to use in my bujo key for classes? I used a block letter C in my last one but it always looked messy
hmm maybe a mini pencil, muji notebook, paper+pencil, or possibly a clock? but i think a mini pencil might be the best to use since it’s not too complex and really easy to draw <3
