LAVOS-
I sail through void
Lonely and cold.
I don't remember how or why
Just how lonely I am.
But what is this?
In the distance, a sapphire shimmers
In a matching azure halo.
It calls to me, I must oblige
I shall introduce it to my deep ruby.
They will become friends.
This sapphire is vast and grand
Its surface is alive and kissed by the sun.
It is my instinct to crawl up inside of it
To seek shelter, in its molten womb.
There is a patch of liquid hot earth
The perfect place to enter the blue star...
But oh!! My ruby!! It came off and I have lost it
...My concentration lost with it, I crash
Not into molten rock, but a strange construct near it.
The landing is painful, and the light is too bright.
I seek shelter, down where it is safe.
Protected...
Warm...
Dark...
...I drift to sleep.
I begin to dream...
In my dreams, I can see my jewel.
Become it.
The small creatures of this world can grow
Get better from it.
Grow!! Yes, grow!!
This is an exciting dream, to have such an impact on the world.
It makes me feel good.
Before long, we have all found myself again,
Slumbering away.
They feed on me now
as if I a suckling mother.
As the ground beneath them lifts away
From the ice and towards the sun
I feel so proud, yet the feeding begins to hurt.
They finally bite too hard, and now?
I am stirred from my slumber.
I crawl to the surface, but
The flying island exists no more.
I wonder if it ever did.
...and then I see her.
The lifeform so kind to me.
I think she was the mother
Of she who spoke to my ruby.
If she approves, I must be doing right.
Satisfied, I drift to sleep once more
...
I slumber again.
My next dream is less pleasant, though.
One of these creatures bothers me.
Demands me.
They have grown venomous, and hostile.
As soon as I arrive as requested, I destroy it.
I have to. I must continue my dream.
I must watch my world grow again.
I grow anxious...
I ask myself why I do good things.
Do I do them purely for the sake of these lifeforms?
Or because it makes me feel good?
Is kindness truly so selfish?
My long slumber comes to an end.
My hunger grows and I quickly have my answer
I love them, but now it is time to harvest.
What took thousands of days to rebuild...
Gone again in the blink of an eye.
I feel engorged...
satisfied.
Swollen ...pregnant.
I get it now.
My babies will leave this nest I have made for myself...
they will find other wombs out there to nurture and protect them... just like this womb protected me.
..
...The day comes.
The last life flitters away from this womb, and it is time for my babies to leave. I watch them depart, feeling sad to see them go, yet...
...so...
...proud....
I feel tired.
Alone in my rapidly cooling womb, I...
Drift...
To... sleep... again...
...for the last time.
...goodbye...
My children.
