Castles, scones and fireplaces in the bathroom...
Wow! What a hectic week I had last week, not that I am complaining but damn was I ready for a rest by Sunday. On top of my part time modelling I work full time as a receptionist at a Dr’s surgery and have a horse to exercise and care for. I use annual leave to make bookings outside of my typical days off (Tuesday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s) which on certain weeks can lead to quite a few days of non stop working…not that I class modelling as “work” it’s far too much fun!
Firstly let me start by stating what an awful influence John is! On Tuesday morning last week he collected me from my doorstep and off we set to sunny (actually mostly overcast and a little breezy) Slough. Upon arrival at the hotel John and I realised we had a few hours to kill and set to deciding how to constructively make use of our time…full advantage of an empty bar and happy hour was decided as the preferred “constructive use” and so it was that by the time we were joined at around 8 by the beautiful Jessica Jager for dinner, both John and I were rather “happy”. We had lovely afternoon and evening and despite the consumption of cider/lager, we shared and discussed many business and creative ideas.
On Wednesday I awoke groggy but alive, there was a couple of dicey moments in the car but by the time we arrived at the location of our talk for that day at Windsor Racecourse, I was feeling 100% (a sausage McBagel definitely helped!). We set up for the show and got going. There was a decent sized audience and all the photographers present were lovely and extremely pleasant to talk to. I hope to work with a few in the future! Not many photos were taken but the ones that were are gorgeous. Afterwards we wandered upstairs and spoke with various industry professionals that were all a real pleasure to get to know. We finished mid afternoon and set off for our 121 location that was arranged for the next day.
Realising that there was a couple of hours before we were due we took a detour by Windsor Castle but unfortunately found it to be near impossible to gain access to – all we wanted was one photo in front of the castle…I even would have kept my clothes on for it! We drove away from our failed attempts at gaining entry with mutters of “Stupid castle anyway” and contemplations about finding a pub. We eventually stopped at Windsor Farm Shop which is absolutely HUGE, I bought some posh cookies for my mum and we wandered off to the coffee shop for the loveliest Cream Tea (technically cream coffee) I’ve ever had. I have to say, my trip to Windsor definitely brought out the ‘Ull bird in me, never so much as when I spotted a large fireplace in Windsor Racecourse ladies bathroom and came out exclaiming “John, you won’t believe it, there’s a fireplace in there! I took a photo”… you can take the girl out of Yorkshire…
Feeling stuffed and just a little bit sleepy we made our way to our next day’s 121 location and host for the night in Beaconsfield. After a pit stop at Waitrose for flowers and beer, we arrived at the absolutely beautiful home of Lisa and Ben. I had such a lovely evening with them and felt so welcome.
The next day was our 121 training session with Lucy Morely who works with Lisa. The first look we did was headshots (all images taken by John on this 121 session have already been uploaded and can be found by scrolling down). The sun was out and the light was just beautiful. We swiftly moved to nude posing on a leather sofa, despite never working nude before, Lucy was a natural and quickly seemed to fall in love with the genre! From nude we did a little boudoir in John’s trusty white shirt prop, the images from that are beautiful and fresh. We worked a little outside in hard light which although I find difficult to work in at times (MY EYES!) I can’t deny the effects are just stunning. Our final set before lunch saw me perched in a “wild” corner of the garden in amongst nettles and thistles. John’s creative genius and eye for photo’s will never cease to amaze me and despite the fact that during that entire set I daren’t move more than half an inch for fear of being stung or stabbed by the weeds, those photo’s are some of my all time favourites. We had a quick lunch before I was instructed to “darken up” my make-up. We went straight to studio lighting and nude posing and from there tried a little more work with hard and soft light outside. The final set was a location shoot in a local wooded area where we even managed a quick and sneaky nude. By now the three of us were exhausted and Lucy was chuffed with the images she had taken through the day so we called it a wrap.
Unfortunately, the drive home saw us hit some traffic making the journey longer than hoped for. Still, we made it home by 9pm and I collapsed into bed exhausted…ready for “Real work” at 8am the next day…
