The Beatles on stage at the Astoria Ballroom, Oldham, on 12th February 1963. A riotous concert which saw 2000 Beatle fans attempt to storm the venue. Only 800 were allowed inside with many turned away. Excited fans rushed the stage and one woman’s dress was ripped in the melee. The previous day the Beatles had been at EMI Studios recording tracks for their upcoming album, Please Please Me, and John, who was suffering from a nasty cold, had practically lost his voice singing Twist And Shout, so George and Paul took on the lion share of the singing for the performance.
