“No More 12th Fail”: Telangana Aims for 100% Intermediate Pass Rate Under CM Revanth Reddy’s Vision
In a strong push to improve academic continuity and success in higher secondary education, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has set a bold target of achieving a 100% pass rate in Intermediate (Class 11 and 12) examinations across the state. The move comes in response to growing concerns over student dropouts between Class 10 and Intermediate levels.
During a high-level review meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), CM Reddy called on the Education Department to investigate the root causes behind the significant drop in student retention after Class 10 and implement comprehensive measures to reverse the trend.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Intermediate education in shaping a student’s future, the Chief Minister stressed the need for proper career guidance, mentorship, and institutional support during this transitional stage. He emphasized that no student who completes Class 10 should be left behind or discouraged from continuing to Class 12.
To address structural issues, CM Reddy instructed officials to explore the feasibility of integrating school education up to Class 12, considering both the Class 9 to 12 school model and the separate Intermediate college system. The Education Department has been tasked with conducting a detailed study and submitting a report, with input from the Education Commission, NGOs, and civil society stakeholders.
CM Reddy also emphasized that attendance and academic discipline in Intermediate colleges must be a priority alongside enrollment. He affirmed that the issue will be brought up for discussion in the Telangana State Assembly to ensure policy-level support.
In another forward-looking initiative, the Chief Minister reviewed progress on the proposed "Young India Residential Schools", planned for each assembly constituency. He directed that each campus should feature a prominent national flag, symbolizing pride and unity.
Currently, statistics reveal that nearly one in three students fails the Intermediate examinations in Telangana. The state government, under CM Reddy’s leadership, is determined to eliminate the failure stigma, improve student outcomes, and build a more resilient and inclusive education system.
