I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.
Everyone judging Graham for carrying sandwiches with him but he’s actually a genius tbh
Ryan assuming Hanne’s dad has abandoned her is cool and it’s interesting that he’s right but then he sees that Hanne’s dad eventually goes back to be with her. I wonder if it made him think about his own dad and how maybe he could also change and step up and be there for him?
Also love Thirteen and Yaz’s annoyed reactions to Ryan making that assumption instead of comforting her lmao

I do love a parallel. Could also maybe be paralleled with the Master breaking the Timeless Child news to 13 but this is more direct bc 13 is saying it and she’s saying similar things in both

Shitty parents is such a theme in this era !! Or maybe like, ppl who flake and then end up stepping up in the end like Hanne’s dad, Jake(?) from Praxeus, Ryan’s dad, Turanga pregnant guy. Idk there’s some kind of theme there with parents and or just ppl in general stepping up after being shitty that feels like it links back to the Timeless Child. I’m just not smart enough to describe it properly lmao
That whole scene when they first get to the mirror world and see Erik is great tbh
I like how Graham doesn’t fully believe it but he believes it just enough for them to try it on with him and show him Grace. But with 13 she’s sus from the beginning so they don’t even try. And I guess Yaz doesn’t have anyone she misses enough that they could have shown her
Love the entire scene of 13 figuring out what’s going on
Obsessed with Yaz’s face when 13 mentions her gran. It’s like Yaz is excited about any new piece of info 13 gives her about herself
The whole scene where 13 is telling Graham he has to choose is 10/10. This whole ep is full of 10/10 scenes tbh
Something something the Doctor doing basically this exact thing and moulding themselves to look and act in a way that attracts human. To a degree on purpose, but also subconsciously too. And maybe rather than ‘build a world’ it would be like, show ppl worlds/planets

The whole main last scene is so good. Graham being convinced bc Grace doesn’t care about Ryan, ‘she’s furniture with a pulse,’ ‘I’ve seen more, loved more, lost more.’ Inject it into my veins
I wonder if when 13 was convincing Graham she kinda thought of River. Like it’s not Graham’s fault Grace died to save him and it’s not the Doctor’s fault River died to save her all those years ago. She knows exactly what he’s feeling.
Jodie has some 10/10 line deliveries and the ‘Of course you can’t’ in this scene is one of them. I’m obsessed with it. Idk if it was a conscious choice or if she just was losing her breath in that moment but either way it’s great imo. Another moment where you can feel River
I love the frog. It’s silly and cute and just feels very Doctor Who imo. And I don’t think it should’ve been River instead. For River showing up to work, the ep would have to change slightly, bc the whole point, at least to me, is that they don’t show 13 anyone bc they know the whole thing won’t work on her anyways, but it did work on Graham which is why showed him Grace. And I think that’s pretty cool. I feel like River’s presence is there multiple times in the episode anyways tbh
Its a bit off obviously but this scene gives me low-key regeneration, her Doctor saying goodbye to us and telling us we’ll be fine without her vibes. I don’t think I’ve ever thought that about this scene before, but now that we’re close to regen is hurts a bit lmao
Ryan finally calling Graham grandad actually nearly makes me cry every single time. It feels earned for sure imo
