I think people around the world view others as different and also probably weird. I come to this conclusion from viewing people with a different perspective. I also think back to the times I went to the land down under and saw how the general public had certain reactions to people from different parts of the world. Since Australia is a separate land mass that serves as a place of mass trading there were tons of different people. I think this type of judgment comes from the subconscious thought of “I am from this place and we have done things this way and any other way is foreign”. A prime example of this is how some Canadians view the American “holiday” of Thanksgiving is weird or different since they do not celebrate do to it being an America exclusive holiday.

I think the film industry down plays addictions as a whole and covers it up by stating that it makes the movie more realistic and genuine. Unfortunately this also comes with negative consequences like people watching their favorite actors be portrayed as drug or alcohol addicts and could give a false justification for taking up an addiction since the films do not try in the slightest of ways to say that drinking or drug use is bad. In some cases, films will showcase a certain drink or drug since they are a major sponsor. A good example of this was the third transformers movie where almost every scene in the house or in the city had a Budweiser in it. On top of that, the main character would down it like water and make comments on how great it is.

Sin City

From the second you step aboard the crowded airbus and take that first breath of stale processed air, you know it will be days before you taste fresh oxygen again. The sensation of recycled life, of hopeful dreams and crushing realities, is in every drop of that fuselage. It’s daily nonstop round-trips carrying passengers from all points of the East looking to catch some saving grace and a few drops of luck in that Sin in the desert.

The more time you spend in Vegas the more the mystique wears off, the underbelly of the beast becomes exposed. The gold plating chips away. The more you realize the demons you’ve come to unearth really never fully go hiding in the dark when you return to your own reality.

Myrle.org and BeingNobody.com

Poor Myrle ran a poor organization. It didn't even have a website. Without a dime of funding in over three months, his hopes of helping people find themselves by way of evening drawing classes held in the basement of a church to which he didn't belong were now all but lost. Long ago he had been somebody, then nobody, then somebody again and now he was back to being a nobody. If, he thought, if he could bottle and sell the curves of life, the highs and lows, then he'd be rich enough to keep his organization going, in order to save more people from riding the proverbial roller coaster. But poor Myrle's experience in the universe's carnival had taught him one thing: the stuffed animals we win are mostly filling. So he sunk back into being nobody, for now.

140 Words On: Community on Twitter

As on any online space, users on Twitter congregate around certain interests. What's important is that there is no “group” system which allows users to separate themselves into private clubhouses. Many users follow tweeters from a variety of “communities,” which are porous to begin with. Also, retweeting constantly introduces us to new personalities we might follow. As we follow more people outside of our core communities and retweet them, the more we work to expand networks and blur the boundaries between groups. This leads to chance meetings and the exchange of fresh ideas.

In Cass Sunstein's famous essay, “The Daily Me,” the author fears we will be jacked-in to a personalized feed (think RSS) which will threaten the legitimacy of official news outlets. He worries that our online experience will no longer be open to chance, and claims that chance encounters are important for any citizen to experience. Reblogging actually re-introduces chance into our feed of information, because we can't completely choose who will appear in our timeline. If we take the responsibility to reblog news and quality content, we can work to introduce chance into feeds while spreading the kind of information vital to democracy.
