so, i had a nice little gap in the space between the end of ch10 and the beginning of ch11. i always knew it was there but i thought i could get away with it. last weekend (?) i realized i most definitely canât so i had to add a whole new chapter and that required some brainstorming. so thatâs what iâve been doing for dayssss. luckily nothing had to be changed or added in other chapters â wait. not true, i had to change one sentence in the old ch11. but this fits very snugly, like it was always there but just invisible to me. i think this works well. you might ask: if you didnât change anything, is the new chapter even needed? i struggled with that myself, but ultimately itâs about accounting for time. i more or less glossed over a span of two weeks in a book with a significant time crunch. not cool. hopefully i donât need to find any other invisible chapters, but itâs always possible. and iâll be on the lookout during the next pass.
as i was explaining the new chapter to my mom, she literally said: this is stupid.
she then revised her statement to: i meant this is ridiculous. same difference. so i had to explain everything and the purpose of the conversation that takes place in detail and then it made sense to her. but like, câmon. tbh, if she doesn't understand half my book, i will take it as a huge compliment because iâm not trying to spoon feed the reader everything.
