Pax New Year
“In 400 years beginning with 1928 we must have 146,097 days”
In all the excitement of Jõulukuu, I missed mentioning Pax New Year which also fell on 25 December this year. It doesn’t always, which makes it less reliable as a Christmas alternative. The next one is in 2023.
The Pax calendar is a reform to the more dominant calendar systems, which, those of you who have been following this blog/are interested in calendars will have come to realise, are all different ways to make the maths of dividing the way we count time work better. In 1930 James Colligan devised the Pax Calendar. It is possibly the most geeky maths calendar there is. I point you towards the pictures for evidence. And all the opening sentence. Who counts days in 400 year chunks? Well, Colligan obviously. But I’m not surprised this one didnt catch on. Though bring on 2023 for a great christmas alternative celebration, Pax style. I’ll be there.
Happy New Year
